The only likeable new character is Poe who of course has the least screen time. I like Poe the best, and then Finn. Rey, not so much. She's just way too overpowered to be likeable. Although I crack jokes about Rey being "over"powered, I don't really care about that. I love a bunch of characters who are more powerful than she could ever dream of being. The problem with her is that she has no personality. Three seconds around her would make me join the Sith.

I don't think the new characters have the same impact... yet, at least. I don't really dislike them, and some things and new people I do like, but if I made a list of the reasons I was and am excited for this Sequel Trilogy, 'revisiting characters from the Original Trilogy' will trump 'getting to know the new characters' and just about everything else about this series. Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in the trailer for The Last Jedi pretty much overshadowed everything and everyone else, even when he was just in voice over. Besides being an iconic character, Luke's role in TFA was so small that fans will naturally be even more eager to see him this time around. On top of that, the new characters aren't that good. We know very little about any of them. Finn's friendship with Rey and Poe was rushed. Finn and Rey's backgrounds don't match their portrayals. Rey was overpowered. Finn was a bumbling comic relief sidekick. Poe had little screen time and was on god mode while in the X-Wing (removed tension from his scenes). Kylo Ren was an inconsistent villain who was powerful whenever they wanted him to look cool, stupid whenever they wanted to advance the plot and weak whenever they wanted Rey to defeat him.

Maybe he is just naturally an interesting character? I mean he has had the least screen time out of all the new characters, so maybe he has the most potential to be a fan favourite? I dunno, just seemed like he was intended to be, and appeared to be, very one dimensional. He cracks jokes and can fly well and makes bff's whenever he meets someone. It might be because, of the three new heroes, Poe's the only cool and competent one who also has limitations. He's not Force sensitive, he got captured and needed saving, he was forced to give up the map's location, he cracked jokes, he's never made the butt of the joke, he's a likeable person and he achieved personal victories at Maz's castle and Starkiller Base.

Like I said he's not a favorite of mine, but there's just something about Oscar Issac's approach to the character that at least makes me believe Poe inhabits (some version of) the Star Wars galaxy.

I still cringe when Finn & Rey were talking at the same time on the Falcon like they were still in middle school.
