Not sure about the quality of the BBC commentary on this rugby thing. BBC commentators used to learn all the players' names, numbers, and an interesting fact/stat about them, off by heart, before every football game. I had the radio on the other day, and a world cup rugby commentary came on. I have no interest in rugby at all, but just left it on. The commentator said... "The ball has gone out to that big lump on the far side of the pitch".

Rugby is one the worst, but football isn’t far behind. Cricket had a lull, but is improving. And at the forefront of this is the introduction of female voices into the coverage, not just some T&A on the sideline. Anyways, on the field - NZ cakewalked a win against Namibia with 11 tries, whilst France scored a narrow 2 point win over a brave Tonga. From what I saw, France would be in trouble without their Fijian contingent, and have seemingly lost a lot of that Gallic Je Ne Sais Quoi......

I've never understood this backlash by manginas against female commentators. Whether it be Jess Mendoza on MLB or Kelli Underwood on AFL, I can't think of one who isn't signifucantly better than some retired boofhead with no insight whatsoever.

England-France cancelled due to typhoon. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/49995604England's Rugby World Cup Pool C match against France on Saturday has been called off because of Typhoon Hagibis. World Rugby is expected to provide official confirmation of the cancellation at 04:00 BST on Thursday. Hagibis is moving towards Japan and expected to make landfall on Saturday. England were due to meet France in Yokohama. There is no news yet on Scotland's Pool A match against Japan, which is scheduled to take place in the same stadium on Sunday. If the Scotland-Japan match was to be cancelled, under tournament rules Gregor Townsend's side are likely be knocked out of the World Cup.
Cancelled matches are declared a draw with both sides awarded two points each.
England and France have already qualified for the quarter-finals and their match was due to decide top spot in Pool C.The cancellation means Eddie Jones' side, who lead the French by two points, will progress as winners and face a probable quarter-final against Australia, with Wales expected to top Pool D and therefore play France. Scotland are third in Pool A on 10 points with leaders Japan on 14 and need to beat the hosts to go through, potentially relying on bonus points. If second-placed Ireland beat Samoa in Fukuoka on Saturday, a weather-enforced two-point haul would mean Scotland finish third in Pool A and go out. It has been suggested Scotland's match with Japan could delayed by 24 hours, even though that would be against tournament rules. BBC weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King said Hagibis is "one of the most powerful tropical cyclones this year". World Rugby tournament director Alan Gilpin and Akira Shimazu, chief executive of Japan Rugby 2019, are due to attend Thursday's 04:00 news conference.

Sucks for Scotland, but such is life. Not getting killed in extreme weather conditions is a little more important than a game of football.

You’d think scheduling could’ve been a bit better - it’s not like Typhoons are a modern occurrence. It’s like scheduling a soccer tournament in the hottest region on earth .....

Rugby Union has had governance problems through its history. The blazers have always been light years behind other sports. They thought they didn't need contingency plans for a tournament hosted in the middle of the Typhoon season. It's a big shame now that the tournament will be overshadowed by this. The winner could be playing fewer games than the other finalist. That is just crazy.
If the Scotland game is cancelled there's gonna be a huge stink. But there should be anyway as Italy have been dumped out due to the incompetence of World Rugby.

Japan is not that small. Surely there are entire areas of the country that will be unaffected by the typhoon. Complicated for the fans with tickets, but better than cancelling matches altogether.

Ok that was only 3 tries, thought it was 4. Red card for Ireland, so still plenty of time for Ireland to f$%k up

I gotta agree with him. I can't imagine them cancelling a game if any of the top 5-6 nations, or especially Japan, needed a win to qualify. I really hope the Jap-Scot game goes ahead. At least that way the Scots fate is in their own hands. Yeah they, typically, will probably find a way to screw themselves but at least that's better than the fickle finger of faith poking them in the bum-hole.
