LOL!! Side Note: I'm glad this franchise keeps going, loved this new one. Although it could have been better with Lin directing.

I'm not going to bother watching any of the films after Paul Walker passed away. It just isn't The Fast and The Furious without him.
If you've seen it, do they explain what happened to Brian O'Conner? I don't mind being spoiled.

They mention Mia/Brian but that's it, and Dom's baby well he names him Brian, it was a much better movie than Furious 7 but I do miss Walker.

$534M global would be the biggest ever, topping TFA. Wow.

Might have strong opening numbers, but I believe this will drop fast. Much like BVS. Still making a lot of $, but no where near F7.

Worldwide it's already the 4th highest grossing movie in the series.

I'm a fan of the cast and crew, so I'm happy for them. I'm hoping it can reach Furious 7 numbers by the end.
Also, I feel like it should be able to hold for a while. It has virtually no competition over the next few weeks, and from what I've seen it's gotten decent reviews.

This opening to me cannot even compete with The Force Awakens. Opening weekend for TFA made 250 million domestically. Just under half of its worldwide total. Since Disney makes a big percentage domestically, they made far far more profit than it made overseas even though the percentage was larger overseas.

You're right, TFOTF only has this record because of an insane China opening. What's really impressive is that TFA managed to do almost the exact same numbers WITHOUT China, where it opened a couple of weeks later.

Some people always create a "rule book" for the box office, forgetting records are being broken yearly.
The Fast franchise wins in several markets that will probably allow for at least 2 more billion dollar movies after the 8th achieves it.

Also to me this is a "fun fact", Star Trek Beyond was Lin's best reviewed movie by a heck of a lot on RT, but it was the least profitable of the Reboots. Trek more than SW relies on domestic gross, so if they can't get A. a better sell for foreign audiences or B. put together what I call a Days of Future Past (x-men) cast that will allow for Star Trek to break out overseas as well then we're in for a wait for yet another reboot.

F8 to beat all newcomers this week with 35M + weekend. Down about 64% according to Deadline. This doesn't come close to F7. Ww, it doesn't have many, if any, new markets to open in.

I find it funny that it grossed a crap ton then collapsed, but only funny because people claim Dwayne Johnson is a big draw who should take the franchise over. Hmmm this one compared to Furious 7 had him in it A LOT more. I think this is further proof he isn't as big as most claim. Now all I keep reading is a Johnson/Statham spinoff, YUCK! Fate was good but imo they need to get Justin Lin back as his 4 were some of the best, 3 of which I can re-watch.

Fell 76% on 2nd Friday, biggest in the franchise. But it has passed $900M globally.
A spinoff series with the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham characters was also announced.

I think its a dumb deal for Universal to make a "Rock" centric spinoff, the guy won't hold up like past movie stars because he can't be taken seriously in the roles he has been in or still plays....
I mean come on sliding a torpedo while hanging out of a vehicle was pretty dumb even if it was "cool"
It would be good for Universal to keep to the FF formula until 10, then reboot it after a few years.

I think Dwayne and Statham can pull off a spinoff film together. People seemed to like them together in Fate. Plus, I think if they include the whole Shaw family with Helen Mirren and Luke Evans returning it will probably draw a good crowd. Many seem to like that family.
