Hahah I just saw this. It wasnt too bad but it is very slow. I dozed a couple times, but in a nice way. I dont understand why he had to go captain america iron man through the debris at the end and I also fell asleep and all the sudden Tommy lee wasnt there anymore.
Btw, why was downtown abbey showing in three of the largest rooms? Are that many people actually going to see this even more boring movie? I thought vistorian era period pieces were a thing if the past.

Good news for us Downton fans, as now a sequel is surely a certainty.

The pacing was very slow, but tbh (and I'm really serious) I was never bored in the slightest. I was even about to comment how impressive it is that it remains engaging at all times despite the slow pacing. I guess it just really clicked with me. The 'jump through the rings and return to Earth' part of the movie felt a bit unnecessary. It would've been even better imo if the movie ended just before then, but I guess the return was needed for the movie's message of hope and the meaning of life instead of ending with desperation. But when I start nitpicking about small things like that, it usually means that I thought the movie in general was really great.

It did make 12 million more than Ad Astra and it won 1st place for the weekend.

Yeah, nothing is going to get me watching downtown in the cinema. Been on TV ten years unless you're really really bored. But I'd like to think I'd have better things to do than watch a Victorian ITV drama on the big screen, but each to their very lonesome own.

Cant blame you for saying that, it is a slow burn. Yes he is there to complete a mission but the main story was about self-reflection and discovery. Made me question my own motivations and humanity's place in the universe

I thought vistorian era period pieces were a thing if the past. You are not showing yourself up to be real smart, by making an asinine comment like this. I haven't watched the t.v series, so probably won't bother with the film, but it has a huge following and quality production design. As for Ad Astra, the title was off-putting or not that appealing, but just watched the trailer and it actually looks quite interesting, ala Peter Hyams 2010 and Robert Zemeckis's Contact.
umm yeah i'm just saying Downtown Abbey is not really a big draw for most people except oldies and wannabes. Perhaps it's because it was during matinee hours which is when most of these types of people typically go see a movie. maybe it's a UK thing, i was unaware this was a TV show as well.
Ad Astra wasn't bad, but I will say the advertising was misleading for it. It looked as if it could have been like Contact, but ended up nothing like it save for the coincidental motif of the protagonist reconvening with his/her long-lost father (in one form or another). I would say Ad Astra was more like a cross between Interstellar, 2001, Fifth Element, and Ex Machina; with no real resemblance to any of them really, but taking some very disparate elements from each.

The score is incredible, and it's visually stunning. Pitt is solid, but in the end there isn't much of a story beyond what you see in the trailer. It didn't explore the concepts introduced very deeply, and spoonfed the audience its theme at the end. It would've worked better if Pitt delivered the monologue at the very end as he's getting into his ship before the nuclear explosion sends him towards home. Give him a kind of spiritual awakening and fade to credits as the explosion rocks his ship. Does he make it home, was his journey (physical and spiritual) successful? It's up to you to decide. That's good sci-fi. Don't give us this corny scene with him meeting up with his estranged wife with the voiceover reminding us not to get lost looking at the big picture while you lose focus on the little things. It's a fine message, but you don't need to say it out loud for the audience to follow. I'd watch it again for the atmosphere it creates, not because I thought it was this extraordinary think piece it was apparently intended to be.

The premise sounds like "parent-child therapy session in space." Not to mention the name sucks.
Science fiction used to have better names like
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun
or
Planet of the Apes
BTW sounds like the message of the film is "life is precious unless you are a baboon."

Who is most people? What is a wannabe? Sounds like something a 12yr old would say. DA has been a big draw and the target audience demographic came out in droves. You didn't even know it was based on a popular t.v. series, even in the States. those may sound like 12 year old words but it takes a 12 year old mind to ask obtuse questions in a jabbing manner simply because you cant accept that I have a poor opinion of some tv show and the people I surmise watch it.
