Not making it to the total 31 viewings...that's a paddling. Not making it to 16 new viewings...that's a paddling. Quitting the challenge in the middle of the month...that's a paddling. Paddling the October Challenge canoe without permission...oh you better believe that's a paddling!

Would The Killing of a Sacred Deer(17) be considered a horror? Its on tv tonight and I've heard its a difficult watch.

I have a question, why are documentaries not allowed in this? I've got a few lined up for October that are supposedly unsettling. And hell even some FF movies are set up as documentaries. Can we PLEASE include them? I simply took the old rules of the last few years (2015-2016) from the IMDB horror board. The reason why no documentaries, or TV shows were allowed... I assume it was because it was a film challenge. Then TV series were added towards the last years of the challenge. Stuff like ‘Masters of Horror’ counted since they were one-off anthology storylines which went over the minimum runtime. While stuff like American Horror Story with long running story arcs were also counted, however you would count it as 1 season and not individual episodes. So each season would count as 1 film. So when I set-up the challenge on this site in 2017 I scrapped the tv series format with the exception of Masters of Horror. However this year I was contemplating removing Masters of Horrors as a option. And having no TV shows included. If the participants agree I would remove it from this year’s challenge. So let us know. Which in the end would mean films only. I guess that’s part of the challenge.

So, if one doesn’t make it to 31, what happens? You get the paddle. While you firewalk over hot coal.

Last time I did this was on the IMDb threads, twice my progress posts were deleted and I got frustrated and quit posting. The following year I got so frustrated at watching bad movies I quit the challenge and haven't done it since. On the fence if I want to go again. Yeah, I remember when my list got deleted in 2013 and it happened again for some folks the following year. It’s no biggie if you don’t complete the challenge. Just post whatever you watch. I guess it gets harder to find first-time viewings you want to watch, and therefore you can be tapping the bottom of the barrel. I’ve been lucky myself over the years in finding some favourites by watching first-time viewings in this challenge. Last challenge I tried to keep a balance of rewatches and first time viewings, as I use to focus heavily on first-time viewings but my mood has kind of shifted.

Anybody going to the cinema this month? For new horror releases, or old classics? I don’t know of any classic horror films thus far, but this month I know the cinemas nearby are showing Zombieland: Double Tap, Ready or Not, The Furies, Three from Hell and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.
Last October I had the chance to see ‘The Thing’, ‘The Blob’ 1988 and ‘Evil Dead 2’, but missed them. The previous year I saw ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’. So I hope something pops up nearby.

Break a leg!
Just like last year I will not participate in the challange, but maybe just like last year I will be catched in the whirlwind of all kind of Horror movies that is going to be mentioned in the next month, and watch a few myself.
Don't forget the Garlic!

I would think as many mockumentaries there are and most are horror related, that if one finds a really creepy documentary with some sort of horror related subject, it should count. So if no one else objects there are only a couple that I have lined up to watch that I've heard are creepy af.

Personally, I don't think documentaries count.
TV films do, as long as they are horror, and over the time limit. One offs or mini series like Rose Red are fine.
Documentaries, and actual TV series like Buffy... It's a no from me.
But I'm not yer mum, so do what you want. It's your October Challenge.

Say films playing around with a pseudo-documentary style, live filming/streaming or faux found footage structures do count in the challenge. The ‘no documentaries’ count rule of my understanding was aimed towards straight-up documentaries portraying real events, real people or looking behind the scenes without the fictionalised elements e.g. Killer Legends, The Nightmare, Going to Pieces, Video Nasties: A Definite Guide, His Name Was Jason, Cropsey, Beware the Slenderman, Ted Bundy: The Mind of a Killer etc. You’re talking about the latter?

I haven’t seen a release date for it here yet, but for me it’s probably going to be one of those releases that if you blink, you’ll miss it.

I haven’t seen it, though it does seem to pop up on some favourite modern horror lists. It was scary enough, the story Colin Farrell tells his son half way through is scarer than anything I will ever see or hear in an October challenge. Wasnt enough visual horror though. The scary music and camerawork sorta reminded me of The Shining
