Although the title might seem like the sound monkeys make when they try to sing scat, it's actually the story of the daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe. Along with a demigod named MAUI, she has to give a goddess named TE FITI her mystical relic back. During the 1st scene, the title character helps a turtle go to the water by using a leaf to protect it from birds. She could've just grabbed it and taken it to the water, but then the turtle wouldn't be able to defend itself against predators. You can help someone without doing the work for them... which is what the spirit of the ocean does for MOANA. ------------------------------------- You can read the full review in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian) and/or watch the video review:

I liked it better than Frozen but not as much as I did with Tangled.

I enjoyed it. I loved the Hawaiian mythology, and I thought the music was pretty good. Better than Frozen by a country mile, but not as good as Brave.

How is the title pronounced? Like Mo-anna, or Moner?

I thought it was excellent. Pure Disney magic.

A boring story with even more boring characters wrapped up in beautiful animation. I was truly very disappointed with "Moana" as I was really looking forward to it. There was nothing really interesting in it at all. The characters are so predictable and formulaic that it is annoying.
I've seen many animated movies made by many different companies and even the bad ones like "Storks" have a little bit of enjoyment in them. I couldn't find any in "Moana". It's almost as bad as "Frozen". "Just love and singing songs will solve all the problems". Pfft!!! That's so 1940s!!
I'd say "Zootopia" is the best animated movie I have seen lately. Great story, great characters and great writing. Even "Tangled" was lots of fun as was "Brave".

I hated it and would only respectfully add that even the animation was blocky and shitty and cheap-looking. I agree with you re: Zootopia; that was actually solid. This, OTOH, was hot fucking garbage.
