When three college students move into an old house off campus, they unwittingly unleash a supernatural entity known as The Bye Bye Man, who comes to prey upon them once they discover his name. The friends must try to save each other, all the while keeping The Bye Bye Man’s existence a secret to save others from the same deadly fate." ** Many people called this movie "one of the worst 2010's horror movies". I can't agree with that. Of course, I'll admit that this movie is not original or scary. It has awful CGI effects. But I think it's average. I was expecting something much worse. It's interesting that this movie was made by Stacey Title, who in 2006 directed "Hood of Horror", an anthology with Snoop Dogg. It took her 11 years to make another horror movie and she made something completely different from the previous flick. Plus, the end credits song is really good:

Would you recommend renting it from Redbox, or is it not worth the money?

Anyone read the book it's from? Any good? I didn't realize it was based on book before I saw the end credits. It's a good question. According to one site, The Bye Bye Man is based on only one chapter of the book "The President’s Vampire" by historian Robert Damon Schneck. This chapter is called “The Bridge to Body Island” and that's the title seen in end credits and on imdb. They probably chose the chapter's title because its sounds better than the book's title, lol. @kruegress If your expectations are low and you have nothing better to do, then yes. But if you want to watch something really good/scary/original then no.

My expectations for this were extremely low given the reviews and ratings, but it wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be. Saying that, it wasn't very good either.
It managed to create a nice atmosphere, and was suspenseful without much pay off. Very few scares, if any in fact, but interesting enough story. I've definitely seen worse - a solid 5/10.

They should've called it the original title... the Pee Pee Poo Poo Man.

It looked average from the trailer, so I'm glad I seemed to have pegged it correctly. I have nothing against average horror movies. In fact, although films like The Exorcist, Psycho, and Frankenstein stand as perfect specimens of what the genre can provide and serve as examples of films to aspire to, the heart of the genre in my book lies with average films like the Stuff, Hell Night, and Psychomania.
I'll probably check it out some day, but I doubt I'll like it. That doesn't really matter to me, though.

It wasn't too bad. The atmosphere was great, full of dread. I like that in a horror movie. But still, like most of today's horror movies...something was missing. It had a few eerie moments but it fell apart at the end.
