I have tried an energy drink for the first time today. It's called Red Bull - Red edition. The taste was great, a mix of cranberry and citrus. What made me wonder is the warning on the can that says that it is not suitable for children and that it is not recommended to have more than one can per day, because of the ingredients that produce excitement.
It had no effect on me. It was just like drinking a regular soft drink for me.
My question is, are these energy drinks just marketing bullshit, or are they really working as exciters for the mind and body and really dangerous if ingested in superior quantity?

lol, Caffeine does nothing for me.
isn't that's what's usually in these energy drinks?
I think it depends on the person
I can drink 3 cups of coffee (I like coffee because it's delicious) before bed and sleep like a baby

They worked for me, but I started experiencing some disturbing chest pains, so I stopped drinking them.

Well, the main ingredient in it is caffeine so if you're asking if caffeine works, then yes, it does, it's a stimulant. Of course everyone is different, and some people have a much stronger tolerance to it. If coffee wakes you up, then energy drinks should too. For me, a single cup of coffee in the morning is enough to get me through the entire day with no other problems if I had my usual 8 hours.
A 12 oz. can of Red Bull contains 111 mg of caffeine, which is about the same as a cup of coffee. Although if you go to a place like Starbucks, their smallest size of coffee contains 160 mg of caffeine, and the next size up contains 260 mg. I've always found Starbucks coffee to be very strong. But most usual places (like a cafe or if you make it at home) it'll have about 90-120 mg. So if a cup of coffee is enough to wake you up, so should a regular can of Red Bull. Although I suggest ditching the energy drinks completely (it's full of sugar and other nasty junk like that) that you don't really need. Coffee is a lot healthier and is the same thing (caffeine-wise), just don't add any sugar or milk (if you do, try to keep it at a minimum).

It's marketing bullshit. As someone else noted, they have about as much caffeine as an ordinary cup of coffee, but they're also loaded with sugar or other sugar substitute which has the added benefit of giving you cancer. If you eat right and exercise, you'll have sufficient energy to do whatever you want. If you want a real extra boost, take an adderall or bump a line of cocaine. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.

Anytime I've had anything coffee-related. the caffeine in it would knock me right out. I remember one day I was in class, & tried a couple chocolate covered mocha beans, & on my way home (I was driving on I-95 back to my house) I fell asleep behind the wheel on the interstate. Thankfully, I didn't crash or anything, but I never touched those damned candies again due to the effect they had on me. That was scary enough.
Also, my mother once tried one of those 5-hour energy drinks, & I honestly thought I was going to have to take her to the hospital... She started having heart palpitations & almost passed out after tearing apart her closet.
As for me, I've never touched an energy drink, & I don't intend to. Never felt the need, I guess.

I have one every day before work and it does the trick. When I don't, I'm a walking corpse, even with coffee.
