Bruins start the campaign tomorrow night in Dallas, start of a road trip before the first home game.
It will be interesting to see if there's any hangover from last year's Finals run. It's basically the same cast of characters, great veterans like Bergeron, Marchand, Chara, Rask, etc.....
Only guy not there that I'll miss a lot is Rhode Island native Noel Accieri, a spunky 4th liner who took his talents to South Beach to play with the Panthers. I'll miss him.
This is a veteran team that knows what to do when the puck drops. This might be the last run with this core, but they should be a top contender come playoff time.
Hoping to see some more hockey fans come out of the woodwork and discuss their teams. Where are the Leaf fans? Have they finally come to their senses and just given up?

Should I rekindle my abusive relationship with the Islanders? They're back on Long Island where they belong, so I say do it, buddy! Maybe the only New York team that I would root for.

Should I rekindle my abusive relationship with the Islanders? Yes. Is there a reason Mets fans must be Islanders fans, and Yankee fans must be Ranger fans? Or am I way off in my preconceptions?

Yankees and Rangers were around long before the Mets and Islanders, plus they play close to each other. Mets and Isles are out on Long Island.

It's the same in football, Yankees fans are usually Giants fans and Jets fans go with the Mets. It's always seemed to be that way in New York, the older teams are mixed together and the newer ones did the same. Don't forget the Giants played at Yankees Stadium and the Jets used to play at Shea.

Well, for a handful of games this year, but when they’re here it’s in the Coliseum (the Mausoleum) which is the shittiest venue in pro sports. When they move to Belmont, they’ll be on the border of Long Island and Queens. Barclays has a much better surrounding area but it’s not suited to hockey, the flip side is that the Belmont area is something of a wasteland, st least for now.

As NJ noted, it’s the proximity thing, at least for many of us. I grew up within 10 minutes of the Coliseum, and within 30 of Shea.

Should I rekindle my abusive relationship with the Islanders? Yes. Is there a reason Mets fans must be Islanders fans, and Yankee fans must be Ranger fans? Or am I way off in my preconceptions? Generally speaking, there are more Islander fans that are Mets fans than Yankees fans. I think the reason is they're on the same Island. I think everything else is on a person to person basis. Ive met all sorts of combinations when it comes to NY sports fans. The one that I never got is the perception that Mets fans are jets fans and Yankees fans are Giants fans. Lot of people seem to think that. Bosux on the old board considered it a fact. It makes no sense. Maybe people think that cause Mets and jets rhymes? Cause like I said, with the Mets and Isles, they're on the same Island. But the Giants and Jets play their games at the same location. yet I've met many people that seem to think it must be Mets/Jets Yanks/Giants. No idea why. And with any thing like this, there's always gottta be one combination that's more prevalent than the other. But again, that's based on an individual to individual basis, your upbringing, who your dad liked, what jersey you liked better when you were 6, whatever. There's no one major reason

I can't wait! I haven't been this excited before the season in a LONG time. Even the year after we made it to the Finals and lost to LA, we had just lost Parise and I wasn't sure we'd make it back. Last year I was excited and thought we would take steps and build on the playoff berth from 2018. But injuries decimated us.
But this year, I'm legit thinking we could be a serious contender after that amazing off-season. two things can get in the way. Well...one thing. i was gonna say injuries, but any team has a shit load of injuries and it's gonna ruin their season. So that's sort of a cop out analysis.
Goaltending. Schneider has really struggled with injuries the last few years. He hasn't been able to return to form. Though last year he played well toward the end. And I really liked how Blackwood looked( And Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood didn't look bad either! HIYOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) So if they can get good goalie play, they'll be in the mix. If Schneider plays like he did in vancouver or his first couple years here, i think this is a Cup contending team.
I'm, just really excited about the potential for this season. Haven't had season tickets in a while, since we started sucking. But I got a partial plan this year. Got a new GF to go with who's a legit hockey fan, Got something else really big coming up, Devils are good, all my other teams are good. Shaping up to be a good year!

I was there last December when they played the Jets. I mean I don't know that part of the world at all but it didn't seem like the most salubrious of surrounding areas. We had a couple of beers and burger in a bar across the road.
