Toronto loses in a shootout to Calgary as Flames' goalie Rittich steals the win for them.

Leafs take it on the chin, 6-2 to Chicago. Andersen does not look sharp and the rest of the team wasn't much better.

Congrats to Patrick Kane on becoming 90th player to reach 1000 career points.

The idiot "fans" are back. Ha, I read 'black' which was what I noticed in the picture in contrast to what I'm used to seeing at an arena.

The extent of McDavid's injury at the end of last season has been revealed. All I can say is, it's unbelievable he's playing the way he is-- he's absolutely flying out there most games.

Second half of season gets under way tonight. Toronto @ Nashville. I'm looking for an easy win for the Leafs tonight.

Not sure if anyone else caught the ASG... I barely did much of it/them.
However, the NHL did experiment with a virtual ad wall/boards for the games (tv effect, not live). Basically the entire boards for tv looked like digital ad walls of modern soccer pitches. I thought it was effective, able to fill the rink with specific ads/messaging at once, rather than dozens of static painted logos. Though they should scale back the effects - some of them were quite distracting.
Saw some of NBC's footage... & their asinine FOX trax puck effects lite. Little digital red flair donating the puck's movement. Awful.
I think it's well overdue that teams are able to better personalize home rinks. The billboard boards are pretty archaic after seeing that digital wall. It looked cleaner & aesthetically pleasing.

Second half of season gets under way tonight. Toronto @ Nashville. I'm looking for an easy win for the Leafs tonight. Apparently the Bruins get an extra All-star break or something, because they don't play till Friday. When I saw that, I figured the whole league probably wouldn't start until Wednesday, but we got games tonight. Extra long break for the B's.

I don't think I'm totally on board without my team playing. Then again I'm used to it over the years come playoff time.

Most of my fantasy players had last week off, which kinda freaked me out because I forgot about the ASG. Yahoo fantasy does the usual 2 week window for ASG's. At least it was all at once.

Ovie scores 693, passing Yzerman for 9th all time. About 200 away from the Great One. Gretzky's got records that I never thought could be broken, but Ovechkin has got a shot. It seems like he could average 40 a year through the next 5 years, if he chooses to keep going.

Oilers & Flames are gonna kill each other before spring even starts.
Re-match fight & now Giordano sticks his knee on McDavid's.
NHL has the best rivalries.

The Oilers/Drew Doughty vs the Flames (particularly Tkachuk) are the only real rivalries. Compared to the old days of, say, Red Wings/Avs or even the recent Pens/Flyers, players today are essentially best friends.

Ovechkin's a bigger guy who's remained remarkably healthy in his career, plus he's played on a good team most years and the NHL has made some rule changes to improve scoring. Throw in his seeming enjoyment being in the spotlight and playing in North America unlike other Russians like Kovalchuk who ran back home for a few years or Malkin who's barely learned English and I see no reason why he cant break the record.

Animosity in games has been minimized and player safety is a greater concern individually and as a league. The Leafs don't have a single player that would make opponents or their fans angry.

Toronto wins in Dallas 5-3. Don't want to jinx him but Matthews is on pace to set the team's season goal record.

I like that these exist: Rangers-Islanders Penguins-Flyers Rangers-Devils Sharks-Kings Kings-Ducks Oilers-Flames Leafs-everyone in the Atlantic north of Florida Habs-Bruins Habs-Sens Sabres-Bruins Blackhawks-Blues I just think collectively, the NHL has awesome home brewed rivalries.
