He's of course free to his opinion, but it's still a tad narrow minded methinks.

"I wouldn't work for Martin Scorsese for $10 million. He hasn't made a good film in 25 years. I would never work with an egomaniac has-been." - Vincent Gallo

Yes it is. He just can't see past the sci-fi elements. Many people can't relate to sci-fi, that's why it barely ever wins major awards.

Although I guess theres a reason he's now making a netflix movie..

its time for marvel to get mature and make good cinema. What like Dark Knight and Logan? Because from what I recall they don't appear in his list 897 favourite films. Maybe they are theme parks with the lights dimmed down.

its time for marvel to get mature and make good cinema. They have made mature and good movies like Hulk, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Black Panther, Infinity War, etc.

Superhero movies of today are no different than the Westerns of yesterday that guys like him and Spielberg (who has also criticized the genre) grew up watching and admiring. Not every Western was a timeless classic like The Searchers or High Noon; most in fact were factory-line studio products made on the cheap and designed for mass consumption. While I think a lot of Marty as a filmmaker, preservationist, and historian, he's off the mark on this.

While I think a lot of Marty as a filmmaker, preservationist, and historian, he's off the mark on this. Spielberg's opinion is incredibly ironic, considering he came under fire for his popcorn-schlock approach to filmmaking when he found his success. Nothing wrong with Spielberg films either, it just makes him look jealous when he complains about their success. Auteurs like Marty will always look down on all-ages entertainment, so his opinion is hardly surprising. But again there's irony in his stance here. This is the guy who made Hugo, which is essentially about our collective fascination with motion pictures. What could encapsulate that concept better than the highest grossing film of all time, filled with visual spectacle and character moments that the audience is highly invested in?

A guy who likes crime and mob dramas and makes mostly crime and mob drama films doesn't like superhero/comic book movies. I knew this would make fannerd heads explode, but it's not really that shocking.

I feel bad for people like DC-Fan, thenewnexus, and thenolan who think Scorsese is somehow praising other kinds of superhero movies like DC or anything FOX-Marvel or Sony-Marvel when he actually isn't and most likely feels just the same with every other kind of superhero movie. If he mentioned any other superhero movies that were not Marvel Studios they'd be upset.

its time for marvel to get mature and make good cinema. Oh please your idea of 'good cinema' are still in the ballpark of 'McMovies' - features which are intended to mainstream audiences and are easy to find at any cineplex.
