Ewan says that this film is a Feminist film. "What interested me with Birds of Prey is that it's a feminist film. It is very finely written, it is in the script a true look on the misogyny. And I think we (the men) need that, we need to be more aware of how we behave with the opposite sex. We need to be taught to change. The misogynists in the movies are often extreme: they are raping, they beat women... And it's legitimate to represent people like that , because they exist and they are obviously the worst. But in the dialogues of Birds of Prey, there is always an allusion to everyday misogyny, to those things that we say as a man we do not even realize , to mansplaining... All this is in the script in a very subtle way. I found that brilliant." www.premiere.fr/Cinema/News-Cinema/Exclu-Ewan-McGregor-Il-y-a-dans-Birds-of-Prey-un-vrai-regard-sur-la-misogynie

He shouldnt have mentioned that. Now youtube and twitter will be dissecting everything about this movie to death and well get the inevitable "straight white males" vs the "diversity SJWs" flamewar again like we havent got sick of it the first 1000 times.

So will this be as hated as Captain Marvel? No DC fans are less toxic than mcu fans, they may be a little aggressive against critics but that's it

I had used IMDb for movie data for years, but never noticed the message boards until around Thor in 2011. I was on those boards. I know what went on, including numerous DC fans who hung out on the Marvel boards because the DC ones were toxic. Maybe it was the Nolan fans, but they were bad. Threads about what type of sex poster would have with the various actresses in the Nolan Batman movies. They would regularly raid the Marvel boards & all our active discussion threads would get moved back pages as they posted line after line of crap. I still feel the Star Wars fanboys are the worst, but we'll see. I think it might be the internet that has given voice to trolls so they feel safe being jerks because they're anonymous

I was a bit raised eyebrow when I saw a comment about this being Harley's breaking free movie, that she needed time to separate from Joker & become her own woman. Didn't see that as a popular move for many of the fanboys.

Is good or bad that a film shows women in a misogynist world? Is it good or bad that s film shows women as equal to men?

Wonder Woman was not a feminist movie. How does one define a feminist movie? I’m not being confrontational, I’m genuinely curious. The island of women is more anti-male. Diana seemed to prefer working with men. She was rather dependent on Steve. More a guy's idea of a tough female. So Wonder Woman was just a female superhero, not the feminist Captain Marvel was. And all Captain Marvel really did was realize she didn't have to live by rules Yon-rogg was setting for her, but she saw the Supreme commander as a gal, so basically it was more a case of she discovered she didn't have to live by the rules of her kidnappers. She didn't have to be who they tried to make her. Which is a feminist theme. A woman can be what she wants to be, not what others tell her to be.

So long as not all the male characters in the film are douchebags I don't see it as an issue, women standing up against misogynistic villains is fine, making every male character some type of dick who looks down on women in some way not so much, being a feminist movie isn't an issue so long as it's the right type, the yay women type is great, the men are the devil type not so much.

So any of you think we'll see a boycott from the Anti-SJW and Anti-Feminist crowd like there for Captain Marvel?

Probably not I think Robbie is like Gal Gadot, they are just charming ladies, Brie not so much, I think most of the backlash was just due to her attitude not her sentiment because she came across unlikable, I don't see that as the case with Robbie who would probably be able to charm most people out of wanting to boycott anything, I mean I know I wont.
