And if so, why? Is it about trying to preserve your body for as long as possible?

I think I'd rather be cremated. Cemeteries take up way too much land.

Me, too - for the same reason. My mother was cremated, and my father's wishes are to be the same.

I'd rather my body feed the Earth. Just put me in the ground.

No, when I go I'm taking a spot of land with me. Cremation is a barbaric Asian ritual. For those who think cemeteries take up too much land, strip malls and parking lots take up more. There's nothing wrong with setting aside large tracts of land in the city with trees and greenery. It helps the environment. A lot of old cemeteries aren't well taken care of. Funerals are for the survivors of the deceased person but some old cemeteries contain people whose grand kids are now dead so nobody visits them anymore and they fall into disuse. Even newer ones aren't taken care of. They also get bigger as more people die and less graves are visited. It uses up tax dollars and a bunch of embalmed bodies in big oil treated un-decaying caskets isn't environmentally friendly.

I think cremation is the best way. I live in a large city I feel most of the cemeteries will be built over some day. I have purchased cemetery plots, vaults and even the gravestone. I am reasonably sure I'm not going to live forever. With cremation it's more final. No one a hundred years from now will be digging up your remains to build a Mall.

I would like to be frozen, put on an interstellar probe and be shot into space.

My choices:
1. Eaten by wildlife--foxes, birds, insects, worms--all are welcome!
2. Composted.

I hope to be eaten by worms. Making my small contribution to the environment.

I want a proper Christian burial with all the proper rites and customs performed, my body placed in a pine box.
Either that or cremation on a funeral pyre with gold coins for the ferry man

I'll be content to be tossed in the trash. I like the Himalayan method of letting vultures eat the dead. It's so holistic.

I want to be stuffed in a hugging position with a push button on my right butt cheek which then plays a recording of me telling my loved ones I love them so I can hug and reassure them of my love even when I am gone...that or reanimated as a zombie either way I'm good.

I've already bought a cremation with no funeral. Not that I think I'll need it anytime soon, but each year they don't get any cheaper. I feel as if a grave would just be a monument to my ego. The thousands of dollars needed for a funeral and grave would be better applied to buying something useful (college expenses or a car) for one of the younger family members.

I want no embalming, no coffin, no clothes, no nothing. "Ashes to ashes and dust to dust" doesn't work well with a preserved slab of meat in a hermetically sealed box. Just put my naked body directly into the ground and let me fertilize a tree or something. www.burialplanning.com/burial-types/natural-burials/
