The Scream movie franchise kind of relies on phones. Just don't answer the phone! Scream (1996). Scream 2 (1997). Scream 3 (2000). Or if you do answer and the person on the other end sounds like a psycho killer...pass it onto someone else. Scream 4 (2011).

In William Castle's I Saw What You Did 1965, two teenage girls plays pranks with random phone calls uttering "I Saw What You Did, And I Know Who You Are!" and then hanging up, one of their victims happens to be a psycopath who has just murdered his wife...
