This is shocking stuff to consider, recommended for adults only, but unavoidable within the context of classic cinema. After all, the two great cinematic geniuses lost to the arts world in the early 1930s, F.W. Murnau & Paul Leni, were both said to cherish the talents of one Creighton Hale/.
'It was thought that in 1923 Hale starred in an early pornographic "stag" film On the Beach (a.k.a. Getting His Goat and The Goat Man).[3] In the film, three nude women agree to have sex with him, but only through a hole in a fence. Photographs of the scene clearly show that the man in the film is not Hale, but is another actor who also wore glasses.'
- Wikipedia
Tabloid rumours that Hale built the "glory hole" mystique are simply not true. Shocking, but perhaps not true.

Hmph, hadn't heard the phrase in that sense before. He was possibly an innocent man. Fortunately, Hale continued to find work, appearing in dozens upon dozens of films, though he failed to secure leading roles or restore his reputation.

I've only seen him in The Cat and the Canary 1927, Found this pic from Seven Footprints to Satan 1929 that looked interesting, but though not lost, only exists in two known copies, one in Denmark and one in Italy:
