Youngest winner of a professional tournament since 2004, apparently.
You may remember her from Wimbledon and the US Open, when she went quite far for a 15-year old. This time she only made it to the main draw of the Linz (Austria) tournament as a lucky loser, but ended up winning the whole thing, beating former Roland Garros winner Ostapenko in the final.

Yes, that was her. She went all the way to the round of 16 at Wimbledon after that, and made it to the third round at the US Open.

I've seen Gauff play a lot. She is meh. She looked very ordinary against Naomi Osaka in the US Open. 'Ordinary' is actually being kind. Gauff looked horrible. Weak. Looked like she couldn't even beat a qualifier.
Her game was baseline returns. No power. Waits for you to make a mistake.
The better young rising tennis star is American Taylor Thompson. She plays a devastating old school serve and volley charge the net game that completely wiped out number one Simona Halep.
