Figment of the writer's imagination, most likely inspired by an elephant.

I can't believe that there is going on three pages of speculation on what real life animal is represented by a mythical allegorical tale, in a book written in the first century AD noted for its allegorical tales. Why do people keep making such a silly statement? Most allegories use real life examples.

The OP believes it to be real and others are trying to substantiate that, even to the point of friggin' dinosaurs!

i picture something like a brontosaurus.
maybe the even immense titanasaur they found in argentina. 85ft long 30ft high 130,000 lbs
I agree. From the description it sounds very much like a brontosaurus. the book of Job was among the dead sea scrolls

No-one is disputing that dinosaurs existed. . I am disputing two things. 1. They did not co-exist with humans who evolved much later. 2. Neither were created by 'God'.

b. God created - spoke { first cause, creation, the Word }
c. the heavens and the earth - { space, energy, matter, mass, He created everything in This universe }

Nope. Didn't happen like that at all.

I just checked the official German translation. Behemoth is a hippopotamus, Leviathan is a crocodile.
Case closed.

Of course, being an allegorical poem, the behemoth could just as likely be an imaginary creature, used to make a point. Yeah. It's like discussing whether Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was born in Siberia or North America.

The eating grass line and a few others are puzzlers, but still, I think it's a gator. Didn't Nebuchadnezzar spend seven years crawling on the ground and eating grass (according to the O.T.)? This grass eating seems to be a common O.T. story element.

People who live there would know the answer. They certainly would need some goober from the south pretending an animal like what they know but totally made up is a better example. Job: lord are you talking about a hippo God: no I made this one up Job: well I’m just saying it sounds like a hippo God: as long as you learned your lesson

A German translation calls it "Behemot Nilpferd", which means Behemoth hippopotamus. The description could also fit an elephant. Well the German translation is in error. It’s also unlikely to be an elephant. They have small tails and are not that difficult to hunt down and slay. They both would be difficult to hunt down and slay, which again the verse say nothing about, in 3500 years ago.

Well then you’re an idiot. Do you have any idea how a sword or spear works? Because I know how to fight with them both in an historical way. Taking out an Elephant or a Hippo with A spear or A sword is damn near impossible, that is why primitive man hunted in packs. Hell even in the middle ages with specially created spears it was dangerous to hunt boar. Oh god look who I am talking to, of course you dont have any idea.
