Actually I've never tried canned tuna. Should I try it, or just go the rest of my life tunaless?

I Say "GO FOR IT!" A tunaless life sounds so bleak.
I'd recommend one that is canned in olive oil, rather than water. The texture and flavor are far superior.
Mayonnaise is the generally accepted "binder," for the bits of tuna. There might be others, but I don't know what they would be. Most people mash the tuna, with a fork, then add the mayo and continue to work it. There are lots of popular additives ... celery/cucumbers for crunch, some like onion for added flavor, herbs and mustard are other options.
I like a crusty French bread, or a dark rye. It's also good on crackers, or you can nestle a scoop in the pit-cavity of a halved avocado (of course, that's not a sandwich).
By all means LIVE. I'd hate to see you go on this way.

Why? Sorry Divtal, I prefer all white in water. A little mayo, some horseradish & if feeling adventurous cheese- Yes, cheese in it or perhaps as a melt....or both

I go through 3-4 cans of tuna every week. It's one of my go-to quick meals, whether it's lunch or dinner. Working late and don't want to cook? Tuna sandwich. Boom, done.

Are you in the USA, onethreetwo Hard for me to believe. Like klawrencio79 it is one of my go to fast meals. Quick, Easy and satisfying! When I was in school , the cafeteria served them a couple of times/month. If you like fish, yes try it.

And I do like fish, but the smell of canned tuna has always been a bit much for me. I have a feeling I'd like it though. I don't know why, but a couple of days ago it occurred to me that I'm probably missing out on something I'd actually like. So I'm pretty motivated to try it the next time I go out for groceries.

Albacore tuna is the least smelly.

So there's the tuna in water, which comes in the can and you often can find them on sale at the grocery store for $1 apiece. There's also the 'fancy' stuff that comes in oil. It's more expensive but it's delicious. That you wouldn't mix with mayo, but rather you can include it in salads or, my preference, mix it up with some couscous or farro, cucumbers, fresh mint and any other accouterments your heart desires.

One of the things I hate the most about my life is the fact that I developed an allergy to tuna. That should say it all.

I don't get the cans but I get it at the deli. Also sometimes whitefish salad. A sandwich with heavily toasted rye bread is excellent
