Much like Iron Man 08 for me, The First Avenger does seem to more fittingly play like a semi-documentary origin tale. I really love its WWII time & place, both keeping it fresh upon infinite re-watches, & enabling its pared down throwback vibe to succeed apart the larger Infinity Saga. Cap really only becomes Cap in NYC Avengers battle to come, so this movie is forever origin escapism. Paramount logo intro is a nice combo with IM's, coupling these 2 movies for me as my only favs pre-Avengers. Sure, in hindsight, it doesn't quite sync up aesthetically with phase 2 & 3 films, & yet that unique appeal truly aces its charm for me. I like how far the Infinity Saga reaches back, I don't want all my MCU movies to look & feel like Winter Soldier (spoiler alert: not in my fav 10* WS great thriller, feels too off the beaten Infinity rails for me, it'd be at 11 or 12 for me).
Carrying several touchstone lines & cues into future films, including Endgame, is great threading for me too. TFA is likely the MCU title most grown on me with re-watches. From avoiding it theatrically because why are we going so far back into history just before Avengers, to fun re-watches because it does go so far back into 'real' history before all the fit hits the shan. My MCU favs: 1. Avengers: Age of Ultron 2. Avengers: Infinity War 3. Captain America: Civil War 4. Avengers: Endgame 5. Captain America: The First Avenger 6. The Avengers 7. Thor: Ragnarok 8. Guardians of the Galaxy 9. Ant-Man 10.Iron Man

I don't need to revisit it. It's been one of my favorite superhero movies from the first time I saw it.

Great origin film with a lot of inspiration to draw from. Take note Copolla et al.

I don't need to revisit it. It's been one of my favorite superhero movies from the first time I saw it. After Endgame marinated, I wanted to dive back as complete saga, or in my case, my fav 10 MCU titles.

I always found it to be one of the weakest ones myself but it has been a while since I've seen it.
Didn't think much of the action or the villain.

It's definitely one of my favorite Phase 1 films. It was a decent origin film, and setting it in World War II keeps it from feeling too dated.

Not a fan of the third act. Something about it just bores me and I usually tune out, fast forward through it, or just turn it off.

I saw it twice in theaters, and I still find it highly enjoyable. Red Skull is corny villain but it suits the story well enough. Joe Johnston was the perfect choice to direct.
