Confession time: As someone who has been a fan of NuWho for a decade, I have decided that I will NOT be watching the new season of Doctor Who (I know, I’m being a drama queen). In fact, I will be BOYCOTTING Peter Capaldi‘s final season on the show and I encourage other Doctor Who fans to do likewise. Don’t get me wrong – I actually LIKE Capaldi in the role (I was REALLY looking forward to an older, “serious” Doctor more in the vein of Christopher Eccleston after the last two “look at me, I’m sooooo wacky” Doctor portrayals) and Capaldi was an solid choice and has done a good job with what he’s been given. It’s Stephen Moffat and the writers that failed him. Capaldi’s first season where his character was a grumpy, mysterious, unpredictable grizzled tough guy was a welcome change. The second season, they tried to turn him into an “aging rock star” type and it doesn’t work… his Doctor NOT supposed to be “zany” and silly. The show has been on hiatus for a year and I’ve reached my breaking point now that the creative team at the BBC has replaced the lovely Clara with the awful, ugly, annoying, masculine-sounding, butch “Bill Potts” character. As someone with the name BILL, I think I finally realize what its like to be TRIGGERED. There is NO WAY I’m going to sit through an entire season with this obnoxious sidekick. The trailer looked bad enough, and every “fun” revelation (John Simms, the WORST Master ever, is back, whoop-dee-do) about the upcoming season just sounds worse and worse. For those who are going to accuse me of homophobia or racism or whatever because this “Bill” character happens to be a black lesbian, I will note I had no problem with a variety of ethnicity and sexual orientations on Doctor Who. Jack Harkness was one of the best co-stars, I was sad to see him to go (BTW, I really need to check out Torchwood one of these days…) and Martha Jones was excellent as well. “Bill”, on the other hand, sounds and acts like she will be the WORST companion since Mel Bush. There are already “rumours” (which the BBC has responded to, but HASN’T denied, BTW) that the BBC has buyer’s remorse over the new sidekick so they are terminating Pearl Mackle’s contract after a single season and starting over from scratch when Capaldi and Moffat leave at the end of this year. So for this American Doctor Who fan who has been with the show since 2007, its time to say adieu to Doctor Who until 2018. Actions have consequences! (and let this be a warning for the upcoming STAR TREK DISCOVERY)

It's not a boycott if you don't watch something that you don't like. That's just called... not watching something that you don't like.

Did you watch the first episode or have you decided based on trailers and interviews etc.? I was pleasantly surprised by it. I found it enjoyable and Bill was great. I thought she was going to be annoying before watching it but IMO she wasn't at all, she was charming and very watchable. But then I loved John Simm as the The Master so we may have differing views on characters.
I won't be boycotting as it exceeded my expectations (which were admittedly low) and was a fantastic intro to a new companion. I liked Clara as well but she'd run her course and the Doctor / Clara dynamic was getting a little stale.

? I didn't like her with Capaldi's Doctor. They had no chemistry. And that character was really annoying.
. I think she is not any of the adjectives you are using. Between her and Clara, the annoying one was the latter.
The only traits you are talking about her are physical ones and I think that you are obnoxious.
Maybe you can't bear that Bill is both? Gay and black? Too much for you?
Pearl's contract is just for a year so they wouldn't be terminating anything. Chibnall said there is nothing decided on the cast.
Adiós. (Btw, who cares you are American?)
I'm sure the BBC must be trembling for fear of losing you.

In fact, I will be BOYCOTTING Peter Capaldi‘s final season on the show and I encourage other Doctor Who fans to do likewise. A boycott? Will this be like a "sit-in"? Y'know, sitting in your house, watching something other than Doctor Who? Though I can't say I'm gonna be joining your boycott 'cause, y'know, it sounds kinda... really stupid. I mean, your rant made it sound stupid and I can't tell if you're bringing up general complaints you have in this mesh or if you're just being ornery, especially the line where you unfavorably compare Bill to Clara, attacking her looks. Which is uncalled for. She's an actor, and a supporting character on a TV show that constantly fluxes. You moan and complain like it's the worse thing to happen to DW since it's 2005 revival, which it isn't. I don't imagine Pearl Mackie deserves the kind of hate that includes calling her ugly and awful and, in your own words, boycotting an entire show she happens to be a temporary supporting character on. So, like I said, stupid. Don't worry. I'm sure your one-man protest will have the desired effect on the upcoming Star Trek series. I bet they won't want to disappoint you. They'll see what you've done to Doctor Who, and they'll say to themselves: "You know that one guy who posted about DW in that forum? Yeah, let's try to please him."

Did you watch the first episode or have you decided based on trailers and interviews etc.? Why would I watch that garbage? Watching it would defeat the purpose of a boycott. Every clip they showed of the new season and every "revelation" the "creative" team mentioned about "Series 10" was proof it would be terrible. I don't need to stick my head into the toilet to be sure it will stink. Here's reality... you apologists for "Bill" do NOT represent the majority of view of Whovians, BTW. Fans were disgusted this character was inflicted on us. Every poll I've seen shows that fans loathe the character, and all the comments I've seen on facebook show I was right to begin boycotting the show until the next regeneration. Once "Bill" has been seen, she CANNOT be unseen, and I do not my memories of the twelfth Doctor to be tainted by the likes of her. Better to remember The Return of Doctor Mysterio as twelve's final episode and Calpadi's swan song, so he goes out on a high note. BTW, here is what people who actually watched the opening season turd had to say about it on Facebook. They confirmed everything I predicted:

Bill is the worse thing to happen to DW since it's 2005 revival Correct.Ah, but that's just it. I am NOT boycotting the Doctor Who FRANCHISE, I am boycotting "Series 10" of Doctor Who. I will never watch a single episode of the current season, not even for free or as a download. We ALL need to tune out and not watch a single episode so the BBC gets the message when they clean house next year and Chris Chinbell has to take over and clean up this mess. In fact, I ENCOURAGE people to watch episodes of Doctor Who BEFORE Moffat ruined it. For example, I will be watching the classic Troughton era episode "The Power of the Daleks" this week INSTEAD of "Bill". Let's send a message loud and clear of what Doctor Who SHOULD be. Exactly. She has made the show unwatchable THIS SEASON. We do not need to boycott Doctor Who long term because "Bill" will be gone in a year. We need to punish them THIS SEASON so they get the message and apologize for ruining Calpadi's final season on the show and go in a totally new direction next year, vowing never to insult the fans like that again. If we don't, they won't learn from their mistakes, like during the Colin Baker era. The biggest victim here is Calpadi, he was an awesome casting choice and the first "serious" Doctor since Christopher Eccleston left a decade earlier, and yet they utterly squandered Calpadi's talents and ruined his era on the show. It's gotten worse and worse. I'm so glad they are starting over from scratch NEXT season.

Where are your random comments from? Look, I can do it also. There's a clear and concrete difference between the very real feedback I posted and the "positive" reactions you found. The comments I copied and pasted were the reactions from REAL Doctor Who fans who viewed the episode this week and posted their disgust on The Official Doctor Who Fan Page on facebook, when they realized how awful the episode and "Bill" were. The BBC posted the "good" news about the episode and ASKED the fans to respond, and the response was overwhelmingly negative. The comments YOU copied and pasted, on the other hand, are from paid BBC shills whose job is to write up glowing reviews in newspapers and drum up "hype" for how "good" the new episodes are. (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shill) They're no different than studio created movie "critics" that claim the latest Transformers film is " the GREATEST entry yet!!!" and " non-stop mind blowing fun!!!"

Why would I watch that garbage? Well if nothing else, it would give you some small chance that people would take your opinions about it in any way seriously.

I'm a long time Doctor Who fan, and i kept watching it even when there was bad episode. So you want to boycott the show because you dont like a couple of things? Well dont watch it. But please, don't come back in 2018 pretending to like it. Leave Doctor Who to real fans who go through it all.

Capaldi is the one who decided to leave; it doesn't matter how many series he "deserves". He would be the Doctor in series 11 if he had wanted to be.

I seriously think Capaldi deserves another series(season) 3 isn't enough. He's done a great job and has really become "the doctor". Him and Matt Smith are my favs for different reasons. As for Bill... I can't judge until I've seen the first episode which I've might have missed. It's going to be really interesting to see if the next Doctor will be a black, a woman, a black women or hell maybe even an American. Oddly, I wouldn't mind a non-white Doctor or a female Doctor, but an American Doctor would bother me. The show is quintessentially British, and should stay that way. I already don't like how they keep having episodes set in America to try and pander to the American audience.
