Named for one Gideon Johnson Pillow apparently. A poor general. He did nothing but feud among other generals in the Mexican War.
He went with the South in the ACW. Second in command at Fort Donelson, he escaped and left his men to surrender. When Ulysses Grant leard of theis, he said that if he had captured Pillow, he would have let him go because his awful generalship was an asset to the Union.
Of course, Fort Pillow was infamous in the same was. When Nathan Bedford Forrest took the place in 1864, his forces massacred 300+ on its black garrison. No one knows to this day if NBF ordered it or not. Probably not, but he wasn't the most forward thinker when it came to race (founded the Ku Klux Klan).

Terrible history despite the innocuous name. Then again, it's the same with any place called Sunnyside Plantation.

Harper's Ferry. Had I been alive at the time I would be fighting along side John Brown. But the worst catastrophe to befall blacks in the U.S. would be the Great Society. That made blacks dependent on government and started the assault on the black family making them slaves to the federal government for decades to come(it's slowly starting to change). Because of that, over 70% of black children are born to single mothers. That is astounding. www.city-journal.org/html/black-family-40-years-lies-12872.html
