Apparently sherries and ports are best for the heart protective chemical thing. OK. Haven’t had either in yonks.

"Bucktoothed simpletons with eyebrows on their cheeks... horses running through council estates... men in platform shoes being arrested for bombings... badly tarmac-ed drives in this country"

Cracking open a bottle of Morrisons' Italian Organic Montepulciano D'abruzzo... "Smooth and mellow. Packed with vibrant cherry and blackberry fruit"
Perfect with tomato based spicy food, apparently.

Latest review on Morrison's website!: I really do not like this wine. It has a horrible bitter taste. I read the reviews and they were so good I had to try it and bought 2 bottles but its vile. I wondered if mine had gone off but cannot see both bottles being bad. I won't buy this again. groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Morrisons-Organic-Montepulciano-DAbruzzo/421274011

Very cherry 🍒 I like it 👍

Trying another new one for lunch. A 2018 Cotes du Rhone... 'soft and easy drinking with blackcurrant fruits and a characteristic spicy peppery finish' Think it's my first French wine.

It smells of blackberries, not blackcurrant... It really does have a peppery aftertaste. Not as smooth as they claim, the Italian wine I had last time was smoother. Still, not bad, will buy again 👍

Montepulciano d'abruzzo was all the rage a few years ago. Aldi's were selling it for less than £4. George Clooney made a movie a few years ago called The American. He played the part of an assassin who after a botched job, has to lay low and so goes to ground in the Italian countryside. Whilst there, he starts a relationship with a local hooker and one night takes her to dinner. The waiter asks them what they would like to drink and she answers "Montepulciano d'abruzzo" That placement if nothing else, must have cost a fair bit in fees!
I found it an overrated fiery plonk. It has a kick but is not a smooth red.
