Mostly read fiction, but a couple of my favorite non-fiction books that I've read would be "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" and "The Hot Zone".

I can relish both Gore Vidal's hugely entertaining and intelligent fiction and non-fiction just about any old hour of the day.

The Klan Unmasked by Stetson Kennedy. EVERYBODY needs to read that book. Hollywood could make a movie, verbatim from the book, not change on iota of a detail, and it would be a hit.

I read more fiction than non-fiction. One non-fiction book that I greatly enjoyed was Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel, an examination of the root causes of the differences in the development of Europe and Asia on one side, and Africa and the Americas on the other.
Another one was a biography of Van Gogh. I don't remember the name of the authors. Two Americans I think.

Boy -I am getting senile - I meant to say that I usually read FICTION now - please anybody, if you think I've typed something that doesn't make sense, please let me know, I won't be offended. I hope I'm just suffering from sleep deprivation and not suffering from dementia, I haven't been getting enough sleep lately.

Been there, done that. Trust me, lack of sleep can definitely make you feel as if you're a candidate for onset Alzheimer's. I don't think your posts leave anything for you to worry about on that score at all. When you look at the goof I just made with that quote box, know you have nothing to worry about .

Non-fiction. During the later part of the 1980s I read all of Edgar Allan Poe and then all of Shakespeare, then I started reading Sherlock Holmes and when I finished that I found Stephen King, then James Michener and continued reading the classics. I read War and Peace in one month (50 pages a day) in January of Y2K. Then at some point I lapsed back into non-fiction reading. I have no favorite authors in that genre.

I like to have one of each going.
For fiction right now it's 'Moby Dick'.
For non-fiction it's 'Hungry Ghosts: Mao's secret famine'.
Non fiction book I've been reading for years is 'Vasistha's Yoga'.
