I viewed Motherless Brooklyn twice in November and enjoyed it quite a bit—I deemed it "good" the first time and "good/very good" the second time. The film is both engrossing and quirky, with writer-director Edward Norton paying homage to the street-tough gumshoe movies of yesteryear (especially in some of his montages) while also interweaving intelligent social commentary. While that commentary may seem geared to contemporary discourse, it is undoubtedly veracious and relevant to the American past. Best of all is Norton's eccentric performance, which is worthy of an Oscar nomination, along with strong supporting work from Alec Baldwin, Willem Dafoe, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Bruce Willis is also effective in a brief early part, and the overall cast is tough to beat.
Motherless Brooklyn is both gritty and stylized, with terrific sound mixing, excellent editing, exciting climactic sequences, and a sensitive coda.

Yeah, in a small and early (yet significant) role. He fit the part.
