"We wrote it with an R in mind. When they did the test screenings, was clear that this movie needed to be available to a younger female audience because the subject matter is timely. Also I want to indoctrinate girls into horror."
Translation: we need our propaganda film to reach the audience we want to brainwash so it can't be R rated.

But it will still be "vicious" according to the director, so that must imply it will be mean-s<>t. I wonder who she thinks has kept young girls away from horror films. Does this apply to young boys as well? All about the girls again, because they are just so oppressed and deprived. look THEY MESSED WITH THE WRONG SISTERS!

Not at all. Just pointing out how ridiculous the comments were on the article linked in the op. The director had no plans to target teen girls and said she wanted it to be rated R. As many new directors have to do she caved in to the studios "suggestions" and suddenly (possibly studio idea again) shes declaring the kinder gentler PG version was actually so that all those curious females who have desperately wanted to see a horror movie but have been barred from doing so (by some mysterious cabal I assume) can now FINALLY see a genre that was previously unavailable to them. Suddenly the director is a social media hero for breaking the glass ceiling for watching horror movies and any male who was hoping for an R rating or who knows from the trailer the movie is shit or who dares make fun of how ridiculous and pathetic the need to make villains of people with a different opinion is not only a bad person but is also "clearly bringing some very personal baggage to this". Sorry if you don't see the humor in the hyperbolic silliness of social media like I do. I forget how important social media is to many people today since I' The desperate need of lonely people to finally have other loners to bond with against various "toxic" people who don't share the hive mind is both bizarre and interesting to me. Also very funny in a sad way. Clearly you took my comment about pathetic male apologists very personally and I apologize as it was not intended that way. Relax bro. No need to be so defensive. It's just a movie. However, Obviously the lady director is truly a heroine who has FINALLY made it possible for girls to watch a horror movie and anyone who jokes about what is a milestone event and definitely NOT a transparent attempt to recoup money on a bomb is a bad person. Hopefully you and the others who were triggered by my sarcastic and apparently evil post can sleep better now.
Well, all those girls who could have gone to see a "woke" Charlie's Angels have stayed away in droves, and that one was only pg13 right from the start. Good luck to the director for targeting her demographic with this one. Male demographic don't count anymore, "woke" women have finally cottoned on the males only go to see these kind of films for the boobies on display, so that they are denied....
EXACTLY.

This movie and some of the issues surrounding it seem really annoying and lame, but...
It's almost worth it to piss off the whiney little bitchy idiots who react so strongly to something so inconsequential. There seems to be a LOT of that going on. Much of it in this thread.

Yeah, I didn't expect this to be any good in the first place, which makes all the faux outrage in this thread all the more amusing.
Coincidentally, I plan on re-watching the original tonight. My girlfriend has never seen it and I've been sitting on the Blu-ray for a while now. It's always good for getting into the festive mood!

I knew we were in trouble when they announced the movie was coming out in December over the summer. You knew it'd be rushed and the concept wasn't good to begin with. Then the trailer looked shitty. So the reception I've seen so far is pretty much what I've expected. But yeah, it was good for one thing at least, which was laughing at the whining and bitching of the predictably whiny and bitchy online douches. I think the original is on Amazon. I haven't revisited in years so I may do that. The Alamo Drafthouse by me just showed it, I think, in 35mm like last week, but unfortunately it was sold out by the time I was looking at getting tickets. That would have been a cool experience.

I see no reason to see it as the last trailer gave away basically all the kills and who was the killers.

At least it was the filmmakers decision and studio interference. I thought the movie was truly bizarre. The first hour of the movie left me dumbfounded, the script was so corny yet it was directed and performed in such a serious way. I was so confused I couldn't tell if it was a dumb movie or operating at such an advanced level it was beyond my intelligence. I had no gripes with the politics of the movie, this is horror it's supposed to be all ham. Horror has been beating us over the head with what it's blatantly saying since Mary Shelley. When it got to the big reveal and I realized it's in no way a remake of Black Christmas I kind of started enjoying it, its twist had kind of an 80's quality to it similar to movies like Society, They Live, Night of the Creeps, I was into it. I don't think I could ever sit through it again, but it was one of the more enjoyable 4/10 movies I've ever seen.

So that makes you a whiny bitchy douchy troll then because you were after some jerk off online fix, when the topic of the op was being discussed and the mechanisms behind the production and release. Β
Nice try, but I wasn't after anything. I was discussing the 'mechanisms behind production and release' and then everything got derailed by idiots whining about bullshit. I was in for an actual discussion but was amused at the typical and predictable response from the usual suspects who fall into the lame cliches they've made of themselves.

It has been discussed, but for some reason you want to be contemptuous about those that have been posting along with you, as though your comments are more worthy, or you are wanting to impress upon AA for some reason. And I've discussed it with those willing to actually discuss the thoughts on it in legitimate terms. Not sure what the fuck you're talking about otherwise.

What actual discussion or legitimate terms of discussion do you want to hear? If there is something you have to offer that hasn't been said, do it now and we can build from there.
I haven't seen the movie, so I don't have much to add without responding to someone else at the moment. Do you have any legitimate discussion to contribute? If there is something you have to offer that hasn't been said, do it now and we can build from there. I feel like you and I each tried to discuss the movie and its release, and then the other remake a little bit, while others cried about feminists and called the director a prostitute. I think there's a pretty clear delineation. Not sure what your angle is here, but happy to respond.
