The Fanatic starring John Travolta and directed by Fred Durst. I noticed the DVD or Blu Ray was not in stores. I rented this from Redbox. Are they not even putting this film out to buy? I have heard many negative things about this film. It held a 3.9 on IMDB gave it Zero Stars out of 4. Is it that bad? I see where people and critics are coming from because it is a rather mean spirited film. I have heard the film has a hatred towards fans. Im not sure of Fred Durst's intent because it looks like he based this film on an incident that happened to him.
Travolta stars as Moose a slow movie/star obsessed fan who seeks out an autograph from actor Hunter Dunbar played by Devon Sawa. When turned down and insulted by his favorite movie star Moose stalks him and eventually invades his house. The film is rather a crazy look at Hollywood and its star obsessed fans. I guess this film was supposed to have a social commentary on that but it seemed to miss the mark. Best to look at it as a basic thriller and nothing else. Travolta gives a pretty good performance as Moose and for whats its worth the film is pretty entertaining. However it feels so mean and so empty. Although those may be good qualities for a nasty thriller. I dont think its as bad as critics said but its vary far from Pulp Fiction territory. However its no Battlefield Earth either.
5/10
