Has anyone here seen this show? To be perfectly honest, as a magic buff and an amateur magician myself, it's the only "reality show" I watch. Some of the acts are very good, some are quite weak, but they're all fun, and I appreciate how Messrs. Penn and Teller "play fair" by not revealing the secret and only obliquely referencing the tricks of the trade.
(Also, Penn tones his whole persona down a little bit, not being as vocal as he was in their previous programs about his political and religious opinions. Now, I disagree with many of his opinions, so I'm biased ipso facto, but I'd imagine even people who agree with him on everything would find his presentation of said opinions to be more than a little rude, obnoxious, and abrasive.)
Anyone seen this? Interested in posting a list of favorite acts? Excited for the upcoming season?
“He swung his lantern three times, and slowly a schooner appeared…”
It seems that the US airings of the first season arranged the acts in a different order. Some of the full season 1 episodes are on YouTube, but some acts that are supposed to be in them either do not appear or are put in a different episode. I found the original British versions so I'm going through all of them to make sure I've seen all the acts.
I finished Season 1. Have not started Season 2 yet, but plan to soon.
My favorite acts is Piff the Magic Dragon, love his deadpan humor. The Canadian that managed to put Penn's card back in a sealed pack. I liked the Swedish duo as well...had to watch their act many times to figure it out. Other favorites: The dress changing couple, the teen duo where the guy puts the girl in the box and puts in metal dividers. Thought it was cute that he was in love with her. The little boy with the arm in a box trick. He was very entertaining. The guy who had envelopes that made people picking Nothing, Something, Yours, Mine, and Sex.
I enjoyed most of them. There were a few I did not care for.
