"There’s a huge appetite for R-rated superhero movies and if Marvel isn’t going to step up, that presents an opening for DC to tap into that audience".

I’d say the appetite is for dark R-rated movies. SS2 probably won’t be very dark. The R-rating might end up just being annoying Deadpool-esque jokes.

James Gunn has made some pretty dark comedies before. And horror movies like Slither and The Belko Experiment. He only wrote Belko (which I watched for the first time last night and really enjoyed) But he did direct Super, and I doubt you'll find many darker super hero films than that.

Well without Will Smiths paycheck, they may be able to afford to take that risk.

I'm still wondering what DC-Fan and thewnenexus make of this movie, they hate James Gunn but this is a DC movie and its going for an R-rating.

Huh, so DC-Fan liked the original post, please let us know why you are excited for a James Gunn movie when you hate his guts?
