Sounds like a good show. Can I stream it somewhere? He doesn't get as many requests as he used to and the dopey requests are few and far between. Only listen to Slick Tom Tiberi and the "Open Bar" from 7 pm to 12 am, unless you like hearing the same old shit. He does get a few unintelligible drunks and they're fun.
Just started streaming radio again and was listening to Q104 in NYC's top 1046 songs. 19 years running, Stairway to Heaven is #1. Hell, even hereFree Bird wins once in a while.
Meh, I don't care about the requests. I'm happy to support any station that plays deep cuts, as there aren't many of them left aside from a few scattered local community stations like colleges and such. Thanks.

It's got a great guitar solo in it that I could listen to over and over again all day long. I think Extreme should get royalties every time he says it on the air. No Slick Tom should get royalties from Extreme. He been putting down the song since the mid 80's. He's been doing the nighttime request show for as long as I remember and it's the only time you get to hear the deep cuts. So he gets mad if someone requests the "same old shit". 15 studio albums and you have to hear Comfortably Dumb? What, has it been a whole hour since you heard it? He really snaps if someone requests Stairway to Heaven or Free Bird. And he's pure comedy if someone doofus request something non Classic Rock. "Umm, can you play Like a Virgin by Madonna?' "
I now want to call that guy's show every night and request songs like Hotel California. I've always found guys who "only care about the deep cuts" to be as dim-witted as the guys who "only want to hear the hits". What's the guy's number? I want to call up and request Purple Haze. Will he yell at me?

Can I argue that it's what happens when Richard Wright dies? Sure! Delicate Sound of Thunder and The Division Bell both have some really great moments on them, and Waters' solo records are good but leave a lot to be desired. I figured it was because they were picking up the scraps left by Waters, but you may be onto something there. I love that they were able to do all Pink Floyd songs and not only Momentary Lapse of Reason on that tour. I also love that they named the first album without Waters Momentary Lapse of Reason, no matter what the intentions behind it are, although I do hope it's related to the "creative differences" between Gilmour and Waters that lead to their break, and I hope the intentions are ironic. Yeah. Who knows? Wright could have been the magic dust. Sometimes it's a virtuoso, sometimes it's not. It would be a nice ending to think it was Wright. Maybe no pun intended.

I love puns, so I'm taking it that way regardless of your intention.

I just say they are or aren't so people don't miss them altogether.

Will he yell at me? Call up and request WMCA by the Village People. I haven't called him in a long time, I don't know if he has a phone screener or not. He might, I can see people calling just to fuck with him. A couple months ago someone called and asked for Michael Jackson. He told the giggly girl to Google "Classic Rock" and see if Mikey was listed. Then called her a nimrod, I think
Seriously though, Led Zeppelin has a lot of songs. Why is it always Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog or Stairway? Skynyrd had a lot more in their repertoire that Freeeeeeeeeeeeee Birrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd and Sweet Home Alabama. These bands are not like the Sex Pistols with eight or so tunes. And there's 20 hours to hear Tom Fucking Sawyer or You Shook Me All Night Long

I was in a bar a couple weeks ago and someone played "Boogie With Stu". Must have been drunk and hit the touchscreen wrong.

Underrated? He's practically worshiped by guitarists who favor feeling over technique. His tone is legendary and the solo to Comfortably Numb is regularly cited as one of (if not THE) best ever. He was rated 14th Greatest of all time by both Rolling Stone and Digital Dream Door. So unless you feel he's like top 5, it's hard to call him overrated. What do you think of this Australian spitfire? She sings better and is much easier on the eyes than either Jimi or SRV. Playing is a bit "meh" for me. On the Voodoo Chile she has way too much gain (playing through an EVH 5150 I'm not surprised; I have that amp and they're high-gain monsters--a favorite of modern extreme metal bands) and the playing is just really simple blues licks with a lot of wah pedal. The second (original) piece is much better, though even there there's not much that seems to difficult. The melodic nature reminds me a lot of Joe Satriani, so rather surprised she has Steve Vai playing on it. Still, it's pretty darn good, probably better than anything on Satch's last album (from what I can remember).

I agree that concept albums are intended to be taken as a whole, I just disagree that that necessarily means that the songs can't/shouldn't work well in isolation. To me, it just means they should work better in the context of the album/story. It would appear that either I misspoke or you misread because I don't recall saying otherwise. Hell, I'll even go so far as to say there are parts of songs that work well in isolation. A/B repeat FTW. So he's overrated, then? Ah, OK. I guess it was just a misunderstanding. Ha, I've never actually bothered to rate my favorite guitarists. I don't know where I'd rank Gilmour so I was really just joking. If I had to guess, I think he'd probably just make my top 20-or-so.

I think their best song is Achilles Last Stand and I've never heard it played on radio... perhaps understandably so.
