I'm currently going through the movies in chronological order for the first time in years in preparation for the upcoming movie but I've never seen the CGI cartoon.
I know it ran for a while and it's supposed to be canon. I was never that interested to watch it but if it's good I might watch it. Is it?
I know it's a kids cartoon but how kiddy is it? Is it more like Batman TAS where it's for kids but adults can enjoy it or is just purely for kids?

It's a very good show and has some great story arcs in the later seasons. It matures as it goes along.
If you want to fill in the gap between Episode II and Episode III you may just want to watch the Clone Wars Micro-Series (2003) which leads into Episode III.
Though both series seem to have animation styles that take a little time to get used to.

I remember the Clone Wars 2003 series but Google tells me that is no longer canon. Was that its own thing or was it supposed to predate the CGI series?

As far as CWAS (The Clone Wars animated series) some of the episodes are on that Batman animated series level. Others not so much. But it hits the mark more often than not. I definitely recommend giving it a try. It’s upside is worth the risk even if it turns out you’re not much of fan. But if you like BAS approach to storytelling then you might be.

If it's decent, not too aimed at children like the little bits of Star Wars Resistance seem to be and it's not episodic then I'd give it a go.

It's a great series that delivers on what the PT failed with, it gives us backstory for Anakin & Obi Wan's relationship, it shows why Anakin is a unique case among the Jedi, it gives characters like Maul actual personality and motivation, it shows the relationship between Padme & Anakin and the issues they face in having to hide their relationship, the clones get personality and we get stories of meaning regarding them and their purpose in life.
there are some issues such as Ashoka takes a minute to fully get into, Lucas insisted on a few Jar Jar episodes along the way which are well Jar Jar episodes, the series is meant to be seen in an order but that order I don't know has been corrected on Disney+ or if they are in order in which they aired, but they have the scrawl at the start of each ep iirc that basically fills you in on whats happened so if you don't watch them in order it isn't too bad.
It's a great show imo and worth watching.

If it's decent, not too aimed at children like the little bits of Star Wars Resistance seem to be and it's not episodic then I'd give it a go. It’s not like SW Resistance. This was my review of Star Wars Resistance below: imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/177170/star-wars-resistance-goodVery stylized visuals. The environments are very Star Wars. But honestly the characters seem more like preteen Disney XD characters in a SW universe.
Lots of sneaking around the station. Comedy is centered around cluelessness, awkwardness, and lighthearted arguments. Relationship conversations are a constant. So is subtle - or sometimes very vague - romantic interest. It's typical behavior of Disney channel characters, whether live action or animated. That's usually been the storytelling style.
IMO it's just not equal to CWAS or SW: Rebels. I just can't recommend it at this point in the series. Not unless you like that style of storytelling.

It's a great show, although it does have some bad eps, but the good outweighs the bad by far.instance how It's great how it took all the elements from the prequels and executes them better than the prequels did. It's nice how the show takes background characters from the prequels and gives them proper personalities and voices, for example Kit Fisto gets a Jamaican accent which works quite well. It's a bit puzzling since the show is done in an anthology format where certain eps are prequels to previous eps and it jumps around a bit, but once you work that out it's easy enough to follow.

So I should just watch it in the order that the episodes released or is there a certain chronological order out there?
In any case if I have the time I'll watch it, right now I'm watching the old 2003 series because the whole thing is only about 2 hours so I've been watching it with my cereal.

There is an official order in which you should watch them in as to not be confused by plots, or characters popping up that shouldn't, Official Order but I watched it out of order myself as I was watching them as they came out.

As ”Dazz” pointed out you can watch them either way. It won’t get too hard to follow if you don’t watch them chronologically. I’ve actually watched them both ways. On the chronological list dazz linked to: I recommend watching (1)216, (2)116, and then (T). (T) is the theatrically released animated movie. That gives you a nice, beginning foundation to move forward with the rest of the series. But (5)101 is the actual episodic premiere of the seasonal series, and the starting point for many past viewers. And again, as dazz implied, it’s not too jarring if you go episodic rather than chronological.

So that's an official list then? I think it would be too confusing for me to keep swapping around much...but if I were to watch it in that order then that would flow correctly?
Or it would it just be easier to watch 216, 116, the movie and then from episode 1 onwards?
I take it that 216 would be Season 2 episode 16 yeah?

I would say if you are going to do that also watch 301 & 303 before episode 1 just because may as well watch the starting point eps in correct order first, after that yeah may as well watch in the normal order, and yeah 216 is S2E16.
Just check also though that if this is on the app or whatever that it hasn't been put in official order to begin with, Episode 1 is a stand alone Yoda with some clones episode, you know Star Wars, they aren't afraid to change things up on us, so don't want you watching them in the order the site lists and it already be reordered leading to even more confusion.
