I know that after "The Dark Knight" it has become popular to say that people only still like Burton's Batman films out of nostalgia, and that they aren't really good after all of these years (well, to be fair, most people hated "Batman Returns" even when it came out). Perhaps it is nostalgia for some people, and these certainly aren't the types of Batman films that comic book fans would appreciate, I'm sure, but for me they are entertaining films that portray Batman in a much different, more campy (yet still serious enough in tone), style. I like "Batman" (1989), and "Batman Returns" is a guilty pleasure of mine. Both films are flawed, but I still like Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman, and I like the whole style of Gotham City in those movies.
So, for me, "Batman" (1989) still holds up as a good film, and "Batman Returns" still entertains me to some degree. And for the record, I don't like these movies out of nostalgia. Well, OK, to be specific the reason I like "Returns" IS out of nostalgia, because that was my first Batman film when I was a kid, so that's why I count it as a guilty pleasure, even though I recognize its not a good film when viewing it now. As for the first movie, however, I honestly didn't see it until after I saw "The Dark Knight", and I still really enjoyed it, so I can safely say that I genuinely like it.

I saw Burton's films after I saw Nolan's and ended up preferring Burton's, so I guess I don't fall into the nostalgia category. I do like Nolan's films a great deal, however.

Perhaps I prefer the Burton Batman films out of nostalgia, at least a little...
I remember being a kid, watching '89 at the theater when my only prior exposure to Batman were reruns of the Adam West TV show and old cartoons. But nostalgia isn't the only reason to enjoy the movies. I mean, they did have a killer cast, a great director, and a fun atmosphere and design. They were by no means perfect, though, and I still have appreciation for what was done with The Dark Knight trilogy and I found Affleck's Batman enjoyable to watch. Nothing has quite come as close for me, though, as Batman '89 and Batman Returns.

Batman Returns has always been my favorite batman film since my first viewing, and it always will be. In my eyes, it's the perfect Batman film.

I can't remember the order I saw the Batman films but I know none were in theaters, but the Burton films definitely don't have nostalgia and I really enjoy them, Batman Returns in particular.

Loved Batman (1989) especially the whole gothic/industrial retro 40s look of Gotham, and Michael Keaton kicked some serious butt as Batman, but Batman Returns (1992) was a bit of a mess, and had too many villains going at once, still it did however contain my favorite scene/clip in any of the Batman films and that includes Nolans too:

Batman is my favorite film and Returns is on my top 10 as well. I just love the style, look and score.

Burton's films are very well made. The look of them went on to influence what many consider the greatest Batman adaptation: Batman the Animated Series.
As merh said, Burton's Batman films had style.

Agree with basically everything above: about loving the two Burton films, Returns in particular, and about the aesthetic lacking from Nolan's flicks.

I actually liked Burton's Batman films better than Nolan's. Burton's movies had a heart and a charm to them, while Nolan sucked all the life out of his Batman films and made them dark and depressing.

Yup. I found the Nolan ones semi-interesting (Begins), boring (Knight), and terrible (Rises). Adored both of the Burton flicks.

Lol, what ? Of course Christopher Nolan's Batman movies are better than Burton's.
That said, I love the first Tim Burton Batman movie. It was great.
Batman Returns is cool. Do people dislike it ? lol. It's just a bland movie. Fun, but bland. So idk.
The following two films sucked shit, obviously. Joel Shoe-maker should be raped.

I like Returns a lot, but I never liked '89, even as a kid years before Nolan came around. I can't comprehend how someone could love it unless they grew up in the 80s and that was their first exposure to a dark, gothic Batman. But to each their own.

Batman Returns has always been my favorite batman film since my first viewing, and it always will be. In my eyes, it's the perfect Batman film. I enjoy Burton's two and Nolan's three, but "Batman Returns" is the first one I showed my wife when she wondered why I liked the character so much. I'm also a score junkie and "Returns" is my favorite by a long shot, but I find the movie as a whole to be extremely underrated.

Michelle does an incredible job in this scene where Selina Kyle is having a complete and mental breakdown along with the tragic/creepy but still beautifully done theme by Danny Elfman, and as much as I love seeing her as Selina/Catwoman, I have always thought that if not for Catwoman/Selina Kyle, she would have been a fine choice for the role as Harley Quinn, during the early 90s, and of course with Tim Burton as director.
