This has nothing to do with food but in the "old days" of IMDB I could always get an answer to one of my stupid questions on F&D. I had my dryer duct cleaned today and on the wall opposite my fuse box there is a White plastic panel screwed into the wall that says "Leviton Integrated Systems", I imagine it has something to do with computers? Help!!! Does anyone know exactly what this is? This house was also wired for an elaborate alarm system that connected directly with the police, fire dept. etc., I had that company come out and turn off the system but they wouldn't take all the equipment and in order to get rid of it myself, we would have to tear apart the walls so I'm just leaving it (There's a big panel in one of the closets and the lights are still on that). This is not an expensive home, just a middle class 3/2 home in an bedroom subdivision. Sorry, I got off track but does anyone know what this Leviton thing is?
p.s. I hate alarm systems, refuse to have an Alexa in my home and I don't own a gun. I have a nice clawed hammer and a heavy rubber mallet that I consider my "protection" as well as frying pans and kitchen knives and of course the best alarm system in the world - my 7 wickedkitties who growl whenever anyone walks past the house or comes to the door.

The previous owner had his own road construction business in Northern Alabama and just had this house to stay in while his company was doing work in the Mobile area, maybe he worked from this house. It was barely lived in when we bought it and he sold it at a loss. I don't mind a little technology but most of it I have no use for. I don't even have a smart phone, just an old lady jitterbug.

WKM, there is no possible way that I can answer your initial question. However, I have to tell you that we are "kindred spirits," when it comes to technology. I do have a smartphone ... light-years smarter than I am. At the end of my contract, Verizon always asks me if I want to "UPDATE." ! And, occasionally, they just initiate updates. Unless I'm traveling, I rarely take the cell with me. Friends know to call my land-line, most of the time. I'll return the call, when I get home. As for the Home Front I have; gas, electricity, basic locks, a functional doorbell, and indoor plumbing.

Divtal: The only advance technology I would love would be a house that cleaned itself (I think Star Trek Next Generation had a self cleaning ship). I miss my land line but we were getting too many calls in the middle of the night, none of them legitimate so we went to cell phones. I rarely use the phone, most of the people I would call are no longer alive, I use it to call my husband and make appointments, I don't answer calls if I don't know the number. Of course indoor plumbing is a must!!!!!

Yes, you have what we have downstairs in our business. It is networking which can involve different things. Ours has an intercom outside, for our deliveries. You can hook up your phone system, cable, etc to it depending on how advanced the panel is. Very much like having a tv, when you can add cable/satellite, computer, etc to it. It's not going to do anything unless you have something actually hooked to it. Quite possible your phone, or cable if you have it. Now as far as aversion to alarm systems-we've had one in our homes since I was a little tyke(over 50....yrs). Ours here is hooked with the fire as we're a business. If you have insurance(home, or business) usually you get a good discount for having one. Our is only hooked into the phone/and fire suppression system-so not a whole lotta a leeway for someone to eavesdrop. If we went up in systems, then, yes, because it's hooked to the computer systems. That we won't do.

Thanks for the explanation sweetpea, I guess the previous owner was high tech, WKD and I are very low tech and happy. As far as the bank is concerned, we still have an alarm system. Its bad enough that we have to keep up with termite control but since they have our mortgage, we have to do that. Thanks again.

I have a disconnected alarm system that was here from the previous owner 18 years ago. They never gave me the code, and when it went off, I had no way to turn it off. I kept the ADT sign on the lawn.

So, how did you get it to turn off?? Unplugged the power supply in the garage. Ah, that makes sense. Better than grabbing a shotgun and blasting the control panel, I reckon.

So, how did you get it to turn off?? It's still on. I called the alarm company to come and disconnect the system in my house, I still have a power panel in a closet with lights but it looks like the lights just blink, the alarm hasn't gone off since they disconnected the box in the hallway. Of course the alarm company tried to talk me into keeping the system at $60.00 a month but I told them we couldn't afford it and didn't need it.

Thanks Zolo, I'll look into it after the first of the year, I have a lot of other stuff going on right now and don't have the energy to get involved with something else.

I have double bolted steel security doors on both front and back of my house. On the front door, I have a window decal indicating that my house is protected by an alarm system.
