BEERS ARE CRAFTED by very strict guide lines and if the Trappist monks show a triple net profit on the sales; those are given to charities. The purpose was to create a self sufficient monastery.

A good friend of mine who also happens to be a beer buyer for a large local chain, once informed me that the secret to Trappist ales, is that the monks pee'ed into the barrels while the brew fermented. Nonetheless, I like Trappist ales.

I bought a bottle of Dragon's Milk stout the other night. Haven't opened it yet. It's 11% ABV (!). Will save it for either Christmas or perhaps New Year's Eve.

Lies spread by their competitors, no doubt. lol what's a good holiday Trappist ale? Saw a bunch of Belgian ales at a couple stores today. I can't even remember any of their names - I should've taken a pic of them but I had forgotten my camera. Anyway, looks like about a dozen to choose from, about $6 per 11 or 12 ounce bottle. That would be a lot of beer tasting, believe me.

New Belgium brews some monastery varieties but I donβt know if they are specially Trappist. They are all very good and highly recommended by me. (Sorry, I didnβt watch the almost hour long video so donβt know if these are among the rated.) Abbey β a Belgium dubbel, 7% ABV Trippel β a Belgium trippel, 8.5% ABV 1554 β a dark lager, 6% ABV

I got these two today (will try more labels in the weeks ahead):

Today, I bought several bottles of Bourbon County stout. This brew is very limited and is released annually on Black Friday. There are several grades and it does get very pricy. But it is so very good. The Trappist ales will have to wait until I'm done with my bourbon county stout.

Did you ever see the Chinese film Red Sorghum? There's actually a part in the movie where it's discovered that peeing in a vat of distilled liquor supposedly enhances the flavor.

nutsberryfarm π: okay, I tried an official Trappist Ale today - but it wasn't one of the two I pictured above (I haven't popped those yet). Instead I bought a bottle of Trappistes Rochefort #10 Ale (picture below). It was excellent: very rich and full-bodied, slightly sweet, and very foamy. I could probably see myself drinking this all the time if it weren't for my concern about consuming too many carbs and too much of this stuff would probably turn me into a blimp, so, it'll just be a once in a while sort of indulgence. But hell yeah, try some if you get a chance:
