The biggest surprises today:
*No Knives Out of Marriage Story for Best Ensemble, even though they were both considered to be near locks for this category earlier this season.
*Both Murphy and Banderas don't get a nom and instead Egerton (who was kind of seen as being out of the race already) and Bale get a Best Actor nom. Also, no De Niro, again. The Best Actor line-up at the Oscars will be so unpredictable if this continues.
*Absolutely no love for Little Women from the SAG. Maybe not enough people have seen it yet, but Ronan and Pugh were both expected to get a nom accoridng to most people and they both didn't get in.
*Foxx instead of Hopkins for supporting actor. Also no Pryce for best actor. It seems like a possibility that The Two Popes might not even get a single acting nom at the Oscars.
*And perhaps the most important thing in terms of awards impact: Parasite got a Best Ensemble nom! It's the first foreign language movie of the century (because The Artist is a silent movie) to get an ensemble nom. Roma couldn't do it last year, but I'm starting to believe that Parasite might go all the way this year for Best Picture. And that becomes even more impressive when we consider the much stronger competition this year compared what Roma was up against last year. I think that this could be the strongest Best Picture line-up of the decade imo.
