he really should but the math doesn’t say he will at this point. A little can change But there is still Some (minuscule) hope. hes likely in 6th or 7th right now. more like 7-8 and he missed most of the precursors like Globe and SAG... plus the top 5 seems fairly solid at This point with just one spot somewhat open. But of course I wish he got in, and I remain somewhat hopeful and I am glad to see him do the press and work the rooms but I don’t think it will be enough. Would be great. And he deserves it. In my eyes much more than Irishman for any acting.

Honestly, I liked Good Time but I didn't love Good Time. Pattinson was awesome, and the direction by the Safdie Brothers along with the eclectic score was amazing. I just wasn't that super into the story.
But with Uncut Gems, I found myself immersed in the tale from the get-go. Seeing Sandler's character get deeper and deeper into the shit was wild, and he is equal parts dramatic and funny without hunting for laughs. Like really, this movie is funny as hell in a dark way. Great work from Kevin Garnett (!), Lakeith Stanfield, Mike Francesa (LMAO) and Julia Fox. She's talented, and super sexy. She's got the juice. Another great score from Oneohtrix Point Never too.
Some people may hate because it's loud, rarely gives a person a chance to breathe. Some say that watching it made them feel like they were having a panic attack. I highly enjoyed the movie. Firmly in my top 10. Highly recommended.

I cannot imagine how someone can hate it but I know someone might, simply because there are haters for literally everything, plus this movie is fairly intense so I get how some (probably more women than man thoigh) could dislike it purely for the intensity if they are nor into theill rides. But I loved it. Every second of it.

One of the easiest 10/10s I’ve given out. Goddamn what a picture. What took me aback was how much sadder it was than I was expecting, but I’ve never seen a film so flawlessly paced and hitting each beat with such precision as this. An effortless evolution of style from Good Time (which I also gave a 10/10) and it just excites me thinking of what the Safdie’s come up next. Howie is already one of the greatest characters ever written, and the performance from Sandler is god tier. More thoughts to follow, but easily the picture of 2019.

Would love to hear more thoughts. I agree completely and from what I read there was a lot of prep thar went into making Howie such a dull fleshed character.

But people I've met are telling me Adam Sandler should win an Oscar for it. No idea how they've seen it - I assumed it was screening on Netflix, or some streaming service they subscribe to.

It just got a wide release yesterday, you should be able to catch it at your local cinema. Don’t miss it!

I’m busy right now, but a spoiler thread would be nice. I want to discuss that ending most of all, really just made my jaw drop. That whole climatic sequence did.

So a lot of thieves seen it there. Openers wide today. Yes he should absolutely be at least nominated for an Oscar.

I’ve thought on it and while Uncut is arguably more narratively satisfying, I think I still prefer Good Time, just barely, though. Connie and Howie are equally brilliant, but I think Connie is a tad more compelling to me.

Just got back from it and I'm still shaking. Goo damn those fucking Safdie bros are some talented mofos! I was totally immersed in this one from the very start to the very finish.
Sandler SHOULD get (at least) an Oscar nom (imo). I haven't been following the predictions for the Oscar frontrunners so I'm not sure if he will get one but it'd sure be cool if he did cause he gives one of the best performances of this year. Truly lays it all out there.
I enjoyed Good Time quite a bit but Uncut Gems blew me away. Highly recommend seeing this in theaters if you can!
9/10 .

As for Sandler and Oscar nom - he has the buzz yes but I think he will closely Not get it, sadly. But he really should. Fucking SAG and Globes snubbed him and lowered his chances by doing that because now the math doesnt add up in gis favor. But he culd be the giant upset. Would be one of the decade. I would really love it if he got nominated though. Certainly deserves it. Should be him, Driver, Phoenix, Banderas and DiCaprio yp there this year. Perhaps Murphy instead of DiCaprio. But sadly the Irishman has the biggest pull so far...

But sadly the Irishman has the biggest pull so far... Haven't seen Uncut Gems, but I really don't think DiCaprio deserves a nod for Hollywood. Pitt was better, who will be regulated to support and has a good chance of winning. Bale could be a shoo in for a nom for FvF. I would like to see Egerton nominated at least for Rocketman as well. Not sure about Banderas and I doubt I will see his film. There are so many contenders for just 5 slots, some are just going to miss out. As per our other discussion, I don't think Netflix films should be vying for Oscars and in that instance, any acting noms for Marriage Story and The Irishman are going to deprive films that were made initially for the cinema and this makes it very unfair for more worthy or deserving contenders. Whatever the politics and agendas behind this Netflix fiasco is, it is making me lose even more interest in the Oscars, especially if they are doing it to create more interest. If it wasn't for Netflix films, Sandler could have had a good chance at being nominated.
*edit* Just looked it up and Neflix is one of the distributors for Uncut Gems.
No way Pitt has a chance of winning… I agree Leo didnt do anything too special except of that crying scene but he has got the buzz and the math going on…

Just saw it and loved it. I’d love to see someone who knows a lot more than me about editing make a video essay about how the Safdie’s use sound and image to make a head-splitting experience of anxiety feel like a rush of excitement (and how they stretch that for an entire runtime).

I have a friend who is a really accomplished editor, and he had seen the movie yesterday and loved it, I will ask him if he would be up for it. I agree that would be very interesting.

Reading some of the unhappy reviews of Sandlers usual fans. Cannot stop laughing at the idea of them going to see "the new sandler movie" thinking its something like Jack and Jill or Grown Ups and then being served this xanax party
