I guess this proves Disney can't just crap out anything and expect to be great.

Having seen it, I really don't know how this film will go.
On the one hand, it's really not a good movie in terms of story, characters, etc. I was entertained, for various reasons, but a large part of that was "what the hell is going on here!" type stuff. Not so much a case of so-bad-it's-funny as so odd it's fun to see where it's going to go next. But it's not good, and I can see it flopping hard.
But then again, the "end of the saga" stuff might bring out crowds sufficient to make a billion+ dollar movie. possibly a biiiig +.
Honestly nothing that happens will surprise me - from Force Awakens blockbuster to Solo flop, it could do anything.

“Flopping” is relative here, but anything less than $1 billion would be a huge disappointment.

Flopping wont't happen with this (regardless of the quality), unless it does not break even (what that here 700M?).
I say below USD 1.5B WW: Underperforming as a final trilogy and SAGA installment

can it get to 1 billion? If not that will be truly emvarrassing. Not as “emvarrassing” as pining for an actress to overdose on pills.

Flopping wont't happen with this (regardless of the quality), unless it does not break even (what that here 700M?). Probably more like $900m if TROS has a $250m budget which is the average for the Disney SW films, and a marketing budget similar to TLJ and TFA which is about $185m, and it takes back roughly the same split that is estimated they did from the BO, so we are talking between 45-46%, if it cost any higher, even by not that much more like if it altogether costs $450m then the break even point theatrically is going to be $1b.
It'll make money someway regardless due to home media and stuff like selling it to foreign networks for big money, not to mention merch sales, but yet it needs to make upwards of $1b just to not lose money as a theatrical release.

I would assume that the marketing budget was even higher than with the last two as they have to counter the franchise backlash and fan apathy with special opinion engineering measures; also the actors and other factors got more expensive. 1B breaking point sounds daunting.

BVS had a $170m opening weekend and it flopped Crep, pull your head out of your arse and get it through your head big openings even big box office alone doesn't mean a movie doesn't flop, it depends on how much a movie cost to produce and market, a $150m opening doesn't mean it wont flop if it has a break even point of close to $1b.

Is anybody here a Disney executive with stock options or a profit-sharing contract? If not, why do you care so much about box office numbers or opening weekend numbers? I can't understand it.
