And yet is still only the 9th highest grossing film of the year, what the fuck is the box office on steroids or something?

congrats, haters can be a bit extreme, star wars is dead as poorly reviewed movie passes a huge benchmark.
Its not great news, but hopefully all involved learn lessons or better yet management changes at the top. Someone to stand up to Iger and say no we want another year to work on story , screw you cocksucker Iger who only cares about shareholders.

It certainly was last year, everything lined up so perfectly that it leaves this year with nothing. I could see this being the worst performing year in an extremely long time. It's unlikely but no movie could $1 billion at all.

Now at $1.028 billion now. Should pass Rogue One worldwide, won't be getting to $1.1 billion though from the looks of it.

Although hitting the coveted billion dollar mark and avoiding a flop performance like Solo, making less than an anthology movie cannot be what Disney was shooting for. That has to be a miss when they set benchmarks. I wonder how that could possibly affect their planning choices for a future movie or future trilogy?

That's the thing though has this prevented it being a flop? I mean $1b meant it barely made money, like less than $20m, which sounds like a lot but in reality means they made back 5% of their investment before you factor in things like taxes and interest they would need to pay, and with those bonuses for breaking $1b that means the movie would have slipped back into debt...fucking hell not just creatively but in just business sense Lucasfilm seems to have no clue what they are doing with these movies at this point.

4 out of 5 DSW in the billion dollar club, and 1 in the two billion dollar club. Fandom Menace: "Star Wars is dead!!!"

But probably won’t pass it domestically. That's practically a given aside from any possible Endgame like re-release.

Iger didn't head up Lucasfilm during these years, it's all on Kathleen Kennedy. Iger has way more on his plate than just Star Wars.

Which itself was 35% down on The Force Awakens. That's a pretty sorry story. And the "fandom menace" are celebrating right now, by the way. My bet : Kennedy will be gone in six months or less.

They're celebrating because they are stupid and think a billion dollar movie is a "failure". As for the "Kathleen is about to get fired" thing, I've been hearing that for a couple of years.

Time will tell. Get back to me in six months.

They're celebrating because they are stupid and think a billion dollar movie is a "failure". As for the "Kathleen is about to get fired" thing, I've been hearing that for a couple of years. As a movie a billion can be a failure IF the cost is too high, such as $1.05b would have made Avengers Infinity War & Endgame major flops because they cost something like between $500-550m a piece when budget and marketing are factored in, and by being mostly international money means $1.05b would likely translate into the $450m range or so, making them failures, showing again how you are the stupid one.
Even than as I have said with them breaking $1b this incurs their bonus pay outs which for every Saga film under Disney has amounted to over $70m in additional pay outs, hell even Rogue 1 had like $25m or more in bonus pay outs, which considering hitting $1b only nabbed Disney less than $20m in profit, would mean $1.05b is likely still not truly profitable and there by a "failure" of a movie...until they add in TV sales and home media and such.
Also $1b is not a failure for most franchises but considering it's SW and is a 50% decline from just 4 years ago that's kind of not good, doesn't mean SW is "dead" means Disney need to rethink their plans going forward, $400-500m production and marketing cost is too much for SW at this point, they need to scale it back $100m or 2, $300m in total cost would still mean huge spectacular movies but not be so bloated in cost that they NEED them to be $1b grossing to even eek out a tiny bit of profit, they still have a HUGE audience just not as huge an audience they convinced themselves they had however.
