Game of Thrones is my pick. Superior acting and dialogue, far more intricate and intriguing plots, constantly changing dynamic.
I enjoy Breaking Bad very much, but in comparison, it's a far more simplistic show in terms of plot and subject matter. Also the main dynamic is pretty much the same - the fear that what they're doing will be discovered.

I don't know. Initially I laughed on people who watched GOT. I didn't even watch a single episode of GOT during the first 4 seasons. Then I randomly decided to see one episode and went on to see the first 40 episodes within next 72 hours. 3 days of dream. In the same time I had a take-home exam but I was so engrossed with GOT that I was finally left with just 1 day out 4 days given to complete the exam. I guess Martin has created a completely new world with its own cultures, religions, elements (Valyrian steel?), races and other things. I was fascinated by the different cultures, different landscapes and fascinating religions like that of R'hllor, old gods, 7 gods and faceless god etc. The fact there were knights and warriors and sell swords made me imagine all sorts of things. Often I would start facinating that I was also a part of this world in some sort of role (which kept changing all the time). The good thing is that I was never taken by any one character in particular. I mean GOT shows us reality of humans. There is hardly any perfect human being in that world. They all have flaws. This meant that I never got attached to any one character but liked and hated many different characters. And the biggest thing is that GOT's story never got stuck in any particular place. Sometimes they showed the south, some times beyond the wall, Meereen, Vale and so on and on. That world is just so amazing. Same here, I didn't start watching the show until fairly recently, I think series 5 was airing when I started. I'd watched the first episode and part of the second but for some reason it didn't click with me. There were no characters I was particularly interested in (apart from one who I knew only lasted 6 episodes) so I sort of drifted off from it. I'm not a big fan of fantasy stuff which is what I though it was going to be. I'm more into character based stuff so if I don't get anything from the characters, I drift off. It was curiosity and being annoyed at not knowing what people were talking about that got me watching and now I don't know why I didn't get much from it at the start because it's one of the best things I've ever watched. Amusingly (well to me anyway) it was a gif of Ramsay Bolton waving a sausage and people going on about what a shit he is that swayed me to finally watch it. I like the actor but have only seen him playing quiet, nerdy kind of roles so that was the final curiosity. He didn't disappoint, he's an excellent villain. See, that's all it took. Forget the big trailers with dragons and battles, just show a geek waving a sausage and I'm in . I agree with your points, Martin has created such a vast and intricate world it's kinda mind blowing. And the characters too, that's what keeps me watching. I must have been only half watching the first time round when I couldn't find anything interesting in the characters. I had this idea that it was going to be all dragons and battles which I usually find boring, but that's actually only a small part of it.

I must have been only half watching the first time round when I couldn't find anything interesting in the characters. There are 25 named characters in the first episode and 10 more in the 2nd so it is no wonder they failed to make an impression right away. By the end of the 5th episode, 62 named characters were introduced. It takes a while to get acquainted even to the main ones.

Breaking Bad is for adults. GOT is for adults that are sort of childish. Dragons, magic, mustache twisting villains, ridiculous plot piled on top of characters too hackneyed for children's fairy tales. Then sex and nudity and gore is sprinkled in to make it seem "grown up" and thus somehow intelligent. It can be entertaining kind of like a silly summer movie with lots of explosions. Let's be honest though, GOT is good vs evil on the most simplistic of levels.
Breaking Bad is so much better than GOT, it's pointless to even compare them.

Breaking Bad may be better than GOT in terms of quality and direction. But it is not always about quality. GOT is more entertaining for some people. It has a greater scope and a more diverse plot. It sure is fantasy and a bit childish but there is a child in all of us.

Yes, I think we love this show for characters and settings. Though if you look at it more seriously, the common people have very little role in this story. They are almost non-existent. But of course we are concerned with characters who are shown on the show. Even someone like Podrick Payne makes the show worthwhile. Not to forget characters like Stannis, Varys or Petyr and the complexity of thought that they represent.

It sure is fantasy and a bit childish but there is a child in all of us. I have not seen Breaking Bad. I'm not interested. I came to Game Of Thrones expecting some entertaining medieval adventure and no more. I wasn't even interested in the summaries I read on Amazon before buying the 1st season cheap just out of curiosity. I don't like fantasy and couldn't be bothered with a story in which the seasons play funny and people from various cultures and religions collide. I still haven't identified what made it so important and addictive. It had a comparable effect on me to "I, Claudius", which I watched many times in the 90s and went further. I do like political games and intrigue, I did love "The Accursed Kings" which GRRM named as one of his inspirations (I read those books long before he wrote his), and I love history too, but none of the other historical series I saw did catch me this way, not even Rome. I enjoy The Last Kingdom, which feels like a fantasised version of The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, but I can't say I am invested in any of it. There are no stakes. I suppose one of the reasons is that the characters in GoT remain very clear cut and archetypal, in spite of all the talk about how "grey" they are. It makes them "catchier", easier to love or hate. Maybe this is what makes people care, in addition to the felt possibility that they will die in the next episode.

I haven't seen Breaking Bad unfortunately.
I always intend to, but wind up watching some other dark show instead and I can only watch sparingly.
I will say that I can compare GoT's with The Wire pretty easily though because it is a show about individuals caught up in a far grander battle for the soul of Baltimore.
If Breaking bad is similar, then I could see myself thinking it is on par. If it's largely about Walter White, then it may be a fantastic show but it may not be due to group effort or large enough scale.

I just finished Iron Fist which is extremely disappointing.
The last great show I watched was American Crime on ABC (Not the OJ one), but season 3 just came out and I haven't seen an episode yet.

Game of Thrones
BB was good but I didn't even think it was the best of its type.

I just finished Iron Fist which is extremely disappointing. I wouldn't finish something I'd find "extremely disappointing". I didn't even finish Westworld.

I just finished Iron Fist which is extremely disappointing. I wouldn't finish something I'd find "extremely disappointing". I didn't even finish Westworld. Most of the Marvel shows on Netflix have had disappointing moments redeemed by other aspects. Those aspects are missing in Iron Fist. I also thought it would feed into the larger Defenders narrative & it only made me less interested in that show. As an aside, Westworld was awesome.

I wouldn't finish something I'd find "extremely disappointing". I didn't even finish Westworld. As an aside, Westworld was awesome. Westworld had a strong buildup 5 episodes long but it started going goofy in the 6th and the 7th brought the cheapest "twist" ever, making the whole rest worth nothing after all. It wasn't even a surprise as it had been guessed by people discussing it on IMDb. The remaining "twists" had all been guessed as well and I'm sorry to say the idea of the over-controlling mastermind who got everything going exactly as he wanted was just too bad of a joke. "Oh, it doesn't make sense. How come no one sees something is going wrong here?" (about Maeve and the cartoon cats cheating around) "Well, you see, the boss knows. He's planned it all, you know. It's very clever." No, it wasn't.

I love both shows but Game of Thrones takes the prize. It's the greatest story of told imo.
