One of the most important and talented young actors in the 1930s and 40s, he later became a titan in the television industry by creating, producing and directing outstanding series through the years. He also helped shape and broaden the horizons of the Directors Guild when he served two terms as president. A man with so much talent and humanity, he made a mark that will remembered through the ages by his friends, and by those who don't even know they're watching something he did that has affected their lives. He lived a long, productive, and good life. Hail and farewell to a very special man.
Rest in peace, Gene.
