Will Smith. He started out as a rapper for DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and started acting in the hit sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and starred in several blockbuster films. He was nominated an Oscar in Ali.
I'm not sure if Liza Minnelli counts. She did start performing at an early age in theater, but she was a nightclub singer and released several studio albums during the 1960s. She was nominated an Oscar in The Sterile Cuckoo and won one in Cabaret.
Lady Gaga. She was nominated an Oscar in A Star is Born (2018).

Ronee Blakely I get 100%. But Glenn Close and Sissy Spacek are real surprises. And now I understand why both could sing so well in their films (though I'm not sure either was committed to singing as a career, but that probably doesn't matter). Very interesting stuff, petrolino. Thanks.

Yes, in my research I was surprised to learn about Will Smith. A rapper, wow! As for Liza, I'm not sure. It's close enough to debate, I guess. First job on Broadway at 19, but apparently she was singing in nightclubs in her adolescence. I say let's give it to her. Like mother, like daughter. Seems right.

Diahann Carroll 1975 Nominee Best Actress in a Leading Role Claudine (1974) "Music was an important part of her life as a child, singing at age six with her Harlem church choir. While taking voice and piano lessons, she contemplated an operatic career after becoming the 10-year-old recipient of a Metropolitan Opera scholarship for studies at New York's High School of Music and Art. As a teenager she sought modeling work but it was her voice, in addition to her beauty, that provided the magic and the allure. When she was 16, she teamed up with a girlfriend from school and auditioned for Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts show using the more exotic sounding name of Diahann Carroll. She alone was invited to appear and won the contest. She subsequently performed on the daily radio show for three weeks. In her late teens, she began focusing on a nightclub career and it was here that she began formulating a chic, glamorous image. Another TV talent show appearance earned her a week's engagement at the Latin Quarter. Broadway roles for black singers were rare but at age nineteen, Diahann was cast in the Harold Arlen/Truman Capote musical "House of Flowers"... www.imdb.com/name/nm0140792/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm

Michael Dunn1966 Nominee - Best Actor in a Supporting Role Ship of Fools (1965) He supported himself while at college by singing at local bars. In the 60s, encouraged by actor Roddy McDowall, he and actress Phoebe Dorin formed a slightly bizarre but popular New York song-and-comedy nightclub act, which eventually led to their being cast on TV's The Wild Wild West (1965) as evil Dr. Loveless and his assistant, Antoinette.

How about an actor who was a singer who became an Oscar winning writer/director? Peter Capaldi Before becoming an actor was the lead singer in punk band The Dreamboys (which featured Craig Feguson on drums). In 1995 he won the Oscar for Live Action Short Film for his film Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life

Diane KeatonWhile never really known as a singer, she did support herself with gigs at small New York clubs while studying acting in the '60s, and was in the original B'way cast of HAIR. She can be heard on the OBC album as the soloist in the song Black Boys (pictured at center below). Two months into the show's run, she took over the role of Sheila (Easy To Be Hard, Good Morning Starshine) from Lynn Kellogg. Publicity photos with cast members Steve Curry and Barry McGuire:

Walter Pidgeon
While working in banking in the '20s, he was studying voice at the New England Conservatory Of Music. By 1924 (a year before his B'way debut and two before his film debut), he was recording for Victor Records. Here's his rendition of Irving Berlin's What'll I Do?

Alan Arkin dropped out of college to form the folk music group The Tarriers, in which Arkin was the lead singer and played guitar. At that time, he co-wrote the 1956 hit "The Banana Boat Song" - a Jamaican calypso folk song, which became better known as Harry Belafonte's popular version, and reached #4 on the Billboard chart. The group also appeared in the movie Calypso Heat Wave 1957. Before making his Off-Broadway acting debut. He would later be Oscar nominated for The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming 1966, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter 1968 and Argo 2012. Plus winning an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine 2006.
