Born Jan 2 1920 in Russia (*)
Died Apr 6 1992 in the USA
I haven't read anything by him in a loooong time but I used to love his books and short stories. I've been meaning to re-read the Foundation series - maybe I will do that this year, for his centennial.
(*) That is the date he celebrated his birthday, but apparently he was not sure of his exact date of birth - it could have been as much as three months earlier.

I've read several of his non-fiction books, which are almost all excellent. In fact, I think those are the works where he really shines as an author.
I used his Understanding Physics books often when I studied it in college. Very helpful.
Not a huge fan of his fiction, though I loved the original Foundation trilogy and many of his short stories.
His Galactic Empire and robot novels were disappointing.
I never realized until just a few years ago his sad ending.

Of course nobody listened to him because they probably saw him as an egghead.

I read loads of Asimov years ago and loved the Foundation and Robots series. The Rama books were my favourite though and i'd love for them to be adapted in to a film series.

I LOVED his 'Foundation Trilogy' which EVENTUALLY came MORE than a trilogy, BUT I ONLY read the trilogy! TOO BAD and TOO SAD that he has a PEDO son.

Both long and boring. I've read the original trilogy a few times. Needs to be adapted to the big screen.
I had no idea he even had a son. Sad to hear.

Now that you mention, I remember reading about a project for a TV series based on the Foundation series. I looked it up and this is what I found:
It's in pre-production, but it looks like it's going ahead.

It would be nice if they honored the original story but I can see they are already changing genders.
I'll pass on that.

I too will PASS. I HATE when they change either gender OR race (aka ethnicity). JUST make a new character (IF you want) INSTEAD of changing an ALREADY established one!

This is WHY I'll NEVER watch 'NuWho' aka 'DWiNO'.

I strongly disagree with changing the gender or race of iconic characters such as James Bond, Batman, Superman or Spiderman, but I couldn't care less that Starbuck and Dr. Smith became women in the reboots of Battlestar Galactica and Lost in Space respectively, or that the Equalizer became black. Some secondary male character in a fifty-year old novel is going to be a female in the TV adaptation? Big fucking deal!
