The Hobbit Trilogy was too long, and could have (and probably should have) been one long film or two shorter films.
But at least The Hobbit Trilogy was planned out in advance and had a cohesive narrative. The same can not be said of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

I liked the Hobbit movies more than it seemed a lot of people did when they came out, but for me its no contest: Star Wars

The Hobbit. Extended Editions make the first two genuinely good, and which makes it better than the Sequels.

Star Wars wins because The Hobbit should have never been a trilogy and it was pretty much a kids book.

After a long hard thought, I settled on the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The Hobbit trilogy had a more cohesive story although it was drawn out.

Hmm. Both are similar in that they started off with two good films and then shit the bed in the third act...and yes, I called The Last Jedi and the first two Hobbits good.
But Battle of the Five Arms was at least bad in a standalone way. It didn't ruin the previous two films, not to mention the final film of the original trilogy. So I shall say Hobbit.
The Force Awakens vs. An Unexpected Journey - AUJ
The Last Jedi vs. The Desolation of Smaug - TLJ
Rise of Skywalker vs. The Battle of Five Armies - Bot5A by default

The Hobbit was supposed to be 2 films, but when Del Toro left to direct something else because of ongoing delays by MGM, Jackson decided - for some strange reason (probably money) - to do a trilogy.

Jackson decided - for some strange reason (probably money) - to do a trilogy. Well the studio could have decided on this as well (if not more so). I mean it lives off of making money and will make (and/or endorse) any creative decision to allow it to make money.

On the subject of the Hobbit trilogy (which, as I said in a post above, I generally liked even when a lot of people didn't), I always found this series of events funny:
It's announced that a relatively slim book will be made into two long movies.
Never mind. Make that THREE long movies.
Some people express reservations, calling it a money grab.
Jackson defenders get angry at such accusations, insisting that, if Jackson is making it into three movies, it's because he has meticulous planned it out and decided that he absolutely NEEDS three movies to tell his story.
When the dust settles, Jackson basically admits they had no grand plan and were making it up as they went along.
