I used to think it could be justified only in the case of rape, and perhaps retroactively if your 30-something child isn't able to thrive on their own.
But perhaps it's also justified if having an abortion would help your career?
Not everyone agrees, some woman hating douche-bag named Lila Rose posted this on twitter:
'Michelle Williams, while visibly pregnant, claims she wouldn't have won her #GoldenGlobes Award if she didn't kill her previous child.
No trophy is worth more than a child's life.
Sacrificing our children to pursue our dreams is the total antithesis of women's empowerment.'

Well, I can't really think of ANYTHING worth more than a child's life, so there's nothing that could excuse an abortion. The point being, when you start with the premise that a fetus (or embryo or zygote) is a child, you're just preaching to the choir.

My opinion: There should be no need to justify abortion of a non-person (e.g. a fetus). It should be the decision of the pregnant woman alone.

She might be just one or two abortions away from winning an Oscar!

Only one thing can ever justify an abortion - that the woman wants one, of her own free choice.
Any other factor is bullshit.

Don’t plenty of parents do that by disowning them if the come out as gay or even as non-Trump supporters now? Sure, and probably just as many more disowning their family members because they fail to denounce Trump. Of course, this thread was not about Trump. Alas, some people can't stop thinking about him.

shame the person could listen properly because thats not what she said. It's obviously paraphrasing. She might not have won the award if she didn't have that abortion. If she didn't have that abortion she would have had another child. I bet she's glad her mother never wanted to win an award that badly!

She states i would not be able to do this without a womans right to choose. That does not mean win awards, that means do the job she does. Frankly, she is correct. IF she had an abortion one must assume it was when she was still trying to make a name in the business. I have a child, i also work and trying to fit it all around school, childcare etc is almost impossible. IF she had an abortion we also dont know the reasons surrounding the pregnancy... I dont think we should judge to be fair. I would never have an abortion with the exception of extreme disease/illness to the child or rape, however, i dont feel that gives me the right to allow a woman not to choose, nor does it give me the right to judge her and her reasons.

"I wouldn't have been able to do this without employing a woman's right to choose."
...Maybe she should have chosen not to open her legs in the first place?
Or perhaps made the choice to employ one of the many forms of birth control available?
"Thank you for this award.. I'd like to thank MY ABORTION for making this all possible!"

You know what annoys me the most on this topic? It is when MEN say Secondly, it is that SHE like she got pregnant without a male person involved somehow?

"I wouldn't have been able to do this without employing a woman's right to choose." Exactly. She's right. ...Maybe she should have chosen not to open her legs in the first place? Or perhaps made the choice to employ one of the many forms of birth control available? Maybe these were her choices to make, not yours? And maybe people who criticize other people's choices that don't affect them are just unhappy with their own lives and need to make themselves feel better by criticizing other people? "Thank you for this award.. I'd like to thank MY ABORTION for making this all possible!" She never said this. It's not even a paraphrase. What she did say is that she is glad to live in a country where she can make a choice. If you don't like this, you are free to move to a country where women are not allowed to make such choices. Like Saudi-Arabia, Uganda, Iran... Or maybe you already do?

Deformed babies happen. rape happens. disease happens. danger to the mother happens. I think its best not to judge, particularly over such an ambiguous statement and not knowing the full story. o do so is just a little arrogant, imo.

Every time I had intercourse before I was married I knew that, even though I used precautions, there was a chance I'd get the girl pregnant and if she wanted to keep it I'd be held responsible in some way. That's the risk of having intercourse. If she was raped, fine. I apologize. But unless she lives in a third world country pregnancy is generally pretty safe, as far as your vague 'disease' and 'danger to the mother' go.

I dunno... I just thought it was a stupid speech... Listen to Gervais, "Just come up and get your little award, thank your agent and God... and then, fuck off."
