If she was raped, fine. I apologize. But unless she lives in a third world country pregnancy is generally pretty safe, as far as your vague 'disease' and 'danger to the mother' go. my disease statement is 'vague' I assumed I was talking to someone who knew their facts and figures as you are being so vehement in your opinion. EB (20 million live births more but aborted once discovered as the life expectanacy is 5, very painful, years) , encephalopathy ( 23% of births worldwide) , malformed to the point of dying soon after birth, ectopic pregnanices ( 25 per annum) all the baby. Recent estimates suggest that rape conception happens between 25,000 and 32,000 times each year in the U.S alone. If danger to mother is so rare then i must be fricking fabulous then as I had HELLps syndrome and nearly died after my daughter was born. 303,000 women a year die in childbirth, or as a result of complications arising from pregnancy. This equates to about 830 women dying each day – roughly one every two minutes - so no, not so rare really. But all of this is moot, as I say, unless we walk in her shoes and unless you were in the room with her when this occured we cannot judge such an ambiguous statement. Nor should we judge her right.

No matter what happened to her, I'm sure it wasn't as bad as being aborted. She looks pretty happy and content now.

I dunno... I just thought it was a stupid speech... Listen to Gervais, "Just come up and get your little award, thank your agent and God... and then, fuck off." Those award shows always prove you don't need to be smart to be an actor.

The OP seems to spend an unusual amount of time talking about topics relating to female genitalia and reproduction (especially for one presumably without a vagina). Almost like an obsession.

No matter what happened to her, I'm sure it wasn't as bad as being aborted. Since whatever she aborted didn't have a fully developed central nervous system and IMO should not be considered a person, I dispute that. I don't believe an aborted fetus suffers much more than a fly being swatted. And we don't know if Michelle Williams even had an abortion. She doesn't mention it in her speech.

How could her right to choose have been a factor in her winning the award if she had never made that choice? Her speech would be even more odd if she's never had an abortion.

You know what annoys me the most on this topic? It is when MEN say Secondly, it is that SHE like she got pregnant without a male person involved somehow? Smells like a dog just farted in this thread. No, it smells more like a sexist pig!

My miscarried ones told me that they were pretty pissed off with someone's God!

I absolutely loved Ricky Gervais' speech. It pointed out the wide gulf between the US and British ( Australian is more aligned with Brits) sense of humour. It was brilliant to stick it up some of the most entitled people on the planet....'celebrities'.

Abort your child. Help save the environment and the over-populous planet. Whilst I know you are being ironic, contraception is preferred, no? Ignorance and access to technology are the main reasons that the population is growing. Most people want the children (numbers) that they choose and suit their circumstances.

I used to think it could be justified only in the case of rape, and perhaps retroactively if your 30-something child isn't able to thrive on their own. But perhaps it's also justified if having an abortion would help your career? Not everyone agrees, some woman hating douche-bag named Lila Rose posted this on twitter: 'Michelle Williams, while visibly pregnant, claims she wouldn't have won her #GoldenGlobes Award if she didn't kill her previous child. No trophy is worth more than a child's life. Sacrificing our children to pursue our dreams is the total antithesis of women's empowerment.' In one of the groups I belong to, on FB, one person shared a post which said "She literally held a golden idol while proclaiming she had to sacrifice her kid for it."

I find that an emotionally blackmailing type of over-reaction, illogical and unhelpful.

I agree, Gervais is a highly over-rated comedian and since his last globe speech he really has just become more of a shock jock than an actual comedian.

I find Gervais courageous, quick witted with biting humour that is fearless and sticks it up people who need it. To me THAT is good comedian.
