Until (or not) we get our own section, loyal members of the Buffy and Angel boards need a place to migrate to and congregate.
Welcome to the Jossverse/Buffyverse, fellow Whedonites! Get your slayage on!

It's the one spinoff that really could have worked and still could, given that Eliza Dushku isn't that old. I've personally always had this idea in my head that they could still do a reunion series (especially now that David Boreanaz is finally free--20 years straight of being a leading man on TV!) if they discarded the godawful comics (I'd be thankful if they got decanonized) and perhaps explained away the vampires aging via Wolfram & Hart making the vampire(s) alive/Shanshu'd in a holding dimension for many years. That would be my preferred way of dealing with that issue. Anyway, here's my mega playlist of 3,200+ fanvids that I've collected (very Bangel/Angel/AtS-friendly!): www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCD8E689E063A7235

I'm surprised that a Giles spinoff was never developed. There are so many different directions they could go with that character that a series seemed very plausible.
Although he got plenty of screen time on both Buffy and Angel, Spike certainly could have had a viable series of his own.

Some of the makings of Ripper (the title of the proposed Giles spinoff) did end up in Angel & Faith season 9 (comics--Angel & Faith and especially Angel: After the Fall are the only canon comics I can stomach). Giles' immortal great-aunts were once part of Ripper. Tony Head, IMO, could still do it. That Giles' soul was still owned by Eyghon and Angel ends up saving Giles from that fate was actually one of the better things in the comics that is worthy of being used as a plotline again. It might be better to skip the Harry Potter-esque kiddie!Giles, though.
My one condition for any possible reunion project, however, is that they avoid the route of the Potentials-turned-Slayers filling up all the space. The less of the baby Slayers and Andrew, the better. It would have to instead focus on the main characters from BOTH shows. And the vampires would be mandatory (sorry, but the reunion really couldn't survive without them) with neither one getting completely screwed over (season 8 is what NOT to do). What befell the Fang Gang with Wolfram & Hart's wrath is probably the easiest way to explain the aging. Another fun idea would be to have a Fray crossover, but where Angel, Spike and Illyria are actually hundreds of years in the future. That would be an amazing twist. There was actually a panel in Angel: After the Fall where Illyria was using her wonky time-warping on Angel's timestream, which not only resulted in baby Liam, but also Angel in Fray's future world.
The fact that the whole ordeal with Wolfram & Hart is far from dealt with makes them the #1 choice for Big Bads yet to be vanquished. The fact that Wesley signed the Wolfram & Hart perpetuity clause is a great excuse to reuse the idea of him being an enslaved ghost or perhaps a regular undead employee. And I'm always up for some undead Lilah.
And... I'm one of the few that has always adored the Angel/Connor father/son relationship (it's a reversal of Liam's own relationship with his father) and thought it was one of the best things in After the Fall. I was very upset when it looked like Connor had been killed in Hell-A, which of course catalyzed the plot twist (the reunion was one of the greatest moments in the comics that are now a case of diminishing returns).
Yeah... I really do feel like AtS had so much more left to tell, whereas I feel like BtVS wrote itself into a corner with the rewrite of what it means to be a Slayer instead of THE Slayer.
Fray would also be an interesting spinoff idea. As would a Tales of the Slayers/Vampires-esque anthology series of various past Slayers and Vampires throughout history. That would be amazing.

However, I actually liked Andrew and I found him to be funny, but I realize he wasn't everyone's cup of tea. I know it was wishful thinking, but I always wanted to see a big screen adaptation of both Buffy and Angel in the same movie. Who knows, maybe it would've been a runaway box office success that spawned multiple high quality sequals. We can dream, right?

Well, with shows like The X-Files getting resurrected, there just might be a smidgen of hope. Not a lot of hope, though. But if there ever was a time to do it, it'd be while everyone looks pretty much the same and before David gets yet another series (8 years as Angel and 12 years as Booth--amazing 20 years with not a year without being a TV lead!). SMG and others could certainly use the work. Alexis (criminally underused actor) and Aly have fallen into near unemployment. I still feel so sorry for SMG and Robin Williams with The Crazy Ones. I'm not over Robin being gone. Tony, James, Emma, Amy, Julie, Christian, J. and Charisma turn up all over the place still, though. Nick is probably the biggest obstacle and he certainly has aged the worst (given that most of the cast is as intact as ever, he does stand out). He's probably near uninsurable given his massive personal problems. I haven't checked recently to see how rehab is going. The 20th anniversary is coming up next month! Woot! I hope we get some sort of little celebration. Not holding my breath for Blu-rays, given the fetid job done by whoever Fox hired for the much-maligned, oft-mocked restoration. forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=215038 <--Enjoy the mockery.

Nile, I think the old cast could be in a movie, but their roles might be as folks who guide a younger generation of scooby gang types of characters. Of course, Giles could still be just like the old Giles although he'd be less young.
To make money the movie would have to appeal to current teenagers who might never have seen BtVS or Angel. A youngish main cast would be necessary.

The problem with that scenario is the inevitable Slayer Academy plotline occurring. The mythology works best when there is only one Slayer or that one Slayer is two only because Buffy died and came back. If something happened where there were no longer thousands of Slayers all over the world, such as in the Fray comic written by Joss where Melaka Fray is the only remaining Slayer in a dystopian future world (very Blade Runner-esque with flying cars and such), but her twin brother, who was turned into a vampire, actually ended up with the prophetic dreams half of the Slayer package. Fray is actually a concept that could stand on its own with a completely different identity from Buffy and Angel, or even the Faith or Ripper ideas (which actually still could work, given that Tony is just as famous as ever as an older British man on television and in film and Eliza is significantly younger than the rest of the cast, given she was only 17 when she started the role). The cool thing about Fray is time-travel is possible in the Jossverse if you wanted to do crossovers. Illyria, for one, is known for manipulating time. Not to mention the fact that Angel, Spike and Illyria are immortal. Buffy also has a habit of being resurrected. This would also get rid of the problem of a bloated cast and also allow a completely new cast to develop. An anthology series about various past Slayers and vampires would really float my boat, though. The flashbacks were always one of my favorite parts of the series. I would have happily watched a series of nothing but Darla, Angelus, Drusilla, Spike and the Master committing murder and mayhem through history and around the world. You could probably make a nice limited series out of something like Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires (there were tie-in novels and comics that dealt with past Slayers and vampires, not to mention the Watchers' Council with Giles' grandmother), which could even include cameos here and there to garner excitement, but otherwise star entirely new people. Obviously, you know that all the Slayers have to die, but the arcs and historical settings could still be interesting.

NileQT87 If Buffy doesn't get it's own board, this is rather like a more technologically advanced BronzeBeta. This is how it was in the golden days.... *sigh*

Much more pleasing to the eye, though! Sorry, but the BronzeBeta makes my eyes want to melt. I really prefer forums (and I'm in love with how high-tech this one is--videos and fancy .gif avatars!). I hope we get a board, though. We have five people (four of the old gang). We just need to pull more of the IMDb board over here and we could get attention like the Whovians finally did.

mmexis That video was funny! I will always think of them as Spangel, they had such great chemistry. They were possibly one of the best pairings of the Buffyverse. (Someone please let me know if I'm doing this wrong. Seriously. Please. Thank you!)

It is nice, but I'm TERRIBLE with tech -- always have been and always will be, I guess. Possibly why one of my favourite Dollhouse quotes is "Ditch the tech!". Plus this does my migraines no favours. I'm so sensitive that your GIF (or any GIF really) can put me down for the count in no time.
I hope we can get a large enough group to get our own section here, but I hope that people will also try the Bronze. It's low tech since it was started while the show was still on the air, but the discussions were the best I've had with the IMDb group of the past few years finally seeming to match it. There's no harm in belonging to both boards (especially since you do not even need to sign up at the Bronze), is there?
When my head is feeling better, I'm going to compose posts for both the Beta and IMDb. I already copied your links for these and will include them, as well.

Nile, your ideas concerning Fray look very interesting. I had not heard of the Fray character as I've only read one of the Buffy comics and that was a few years ago.
What if Angel and Buffy had a female child - half human and half vamp - and that girl turned into the next slayer? She could be like Blade, a day walker, and have her own world with her own friends and enemies while occasionally getting help from her parents.

There already exists a dhampire-like character that is human with all the abilities of a vampire minus the actual vampirism: Connor. Except he's the son of two vampires (Angel and Darla).
I've always been fascinated with the idea of Buffy having to deal with something like motherhood. She occasionally scoffs at the idea (don't get me started on the abortion PSA in one of the comics, though at least Spike argued for Buffy to keep the baby-that-wasn't seeing as he can't have children and would like to play family--all negated by the fact that Buffy was a robot), but if you actually listen more closely to the conversation that Angel and Buffy have in Bad Eggs on the subject of Buffy having a normal life with children, marriage, etc..., she only denies that she wants kids after she finds out that Angel can't have them and actually sounds disappointed by the revelation that vampires can't have kids (except the one time they did, of course). Her excuses about her age and killing her goldfish are almost like she's reassuring Angel that she doesn't care about those things because he can't have them and clearly speaks on multiple occasions about how much he does want those things for both Buffy and himself. Bad Eggs, The Prom and War Zone all include Angel talking about wanting children or wanting Buffy to have children, get married and have a normal life because he can't.
If ever there was a way to grow the character of Buffy up into a mature adult (something the comics have wholly failed to do to an excruciating degree--I'm SO tired of Buffy being lost in life, being in an endless repetition of the same "learning to grow up" plots over and over and not doing anything to bring about a real future or adulthood--it's like the regressed Buffy of seasons 6-7 forever), it would be something as radical as making her the mother of a Slayer. And, despite all the 'shipper wars, I think most would have to concede that Angel is the most fatherly and focused on that subject of all of Buffy's love interests. And hey, the kid would have a big brother not born at all and raised in a hell dimension and an aunt who is a mystical glowy energy dimensional key--and both suddenly showed up as teenagers. Angel and Buffy would hardly be alone in the weird family! ...And speaking of which, I completely headcanon Dawn and Connor together. LMAO.

Gosh Nile, you have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of BtVS. I really enjoy your posts because they're so detailed and they remind me of things from the show that I've forgotten.
Thank you and keep up the good work!
