Well the Iliad, like so many classical works, is about the evils of excessive passion, not toxic masculinity specifically.
Toxic masculinity is a Marxist term for anything that is not in line with current Liberal trends. Was it toxic masculinity for Achilles to whine to his mother and have her influence Zeus to harm the Greeks? Sounds like spoiled Mama's boy behavior.

It being from The Guardian, I am surprised they limited the list to only 10 titles - I would have thought they would make it at least 100!

Masculinity itself is not toxic. Bad behavior can be found in both genders.

Did they compile a list of toxic femininity books? Off the top of my head:
East of Eden Jude The Obscure Gone Girl

Divide and conquer.
Since they have no list of toxic femininity (they would be books about mothers I guess ).

The more I think about it, the more erroneous the description of the Iliad as about toxic masculinity becomes.
Achilles gets into an argument with Agamemnon because the latter is mad he has to give up his concubine. Achilles considers his behavior dishonorable. Agamemnon suggests as leader, he could take anyone's war prizes, including that of Achilles, which makes him really mad and more insulting. Thus he refuses to fight, and asks his mother to influence Zeus so the Trojans will get the upper hand and the Greeks will be forced to come begging him for help. Not sure where toxic masculinity comes into it. Only when his best friend is killed does Achilles get murderously vengeful. So he gets angry because his "boyfriend" dies. He later cries in the arms of another man.
That sounds very un-toxic masculine. The trouble starts because he gets too emotional.
