This. ^ Scorsese is not one of my favorite directors but I do see the quality of his movies. Ao you have an interview because The Irishman comes out and you come up with : What did you think about Thor Ragnarok? Scorsese is not the problem here. Pop Culture 'journalism' is. Maybe, but Scorsese did still give a very negative judgement on something that he knew very little about. That's a dick move no matter which way you look at it. He does know film and he doesnt like it. Probably because he doesnt understand it. He is entitled to his opinion but I do agree its better to give an informed opinion.

How can he say he doesn't like something if he hasn't watched it properly? Besides, it's not like he simply said he didn't like the MCU. He specifically denigrated it and pretty much declared it as an abomination to cinema. That's a pretty shitty thing to say about a bunch of movies you barely watch. That's like me going to the most popular restaurant in town, walking out after not liking their starter soup then declaring the entire restaurant as crap.

He drew gladiator comic book panels when he was a kid-maybe they were meant as movie storyboards but he did do action scene stuff.

He specifically denigrated it and pretty much declared it as an abomination to cinema. I agree. That's why it's difficult to synthesize. It's arrogant. To disparage a genre is to condescend to its potential, and if you're like me and believe a good film can be pulled from any material with the right hands, the only limit to quality is imagination.
Fresh off the Golden Globes, we're seeing the categories dominated by Netflix, HBO, Amazon, even Apple TV now. Not much from legacy media these days. Cable TV peddles whatever will get people to sit through commercials, even half the films are Netflix movies. Superhero movies did not come out of the blue and muscle all the funds away. Years of laugh track driven sitcoms and just passable films are why all the talent's going to streaming services.
It's kind of rich to complain about superhero films when you're not even ponying up competition on the same terms. How many movies do characters like Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughan/Owen Wilson or Will Ferrel/John C Reilly play the same character with the same cliches and gags? I feel like the people behind a lot of mediocre material are expecting to rise with the tide of Scorsese's criticism because hey, at least the 15 paint by numbers romantic comedies staring Katherine Heigl or Jennifer Anniston aren't superhero movies, right? Jennifer Anniston said the Marvel films are diminishing the movie industry. Bruh, if this new show she's in is as good as people say it is, then it'll be the first decent thing she's ever done. Decent, not popular.
Not making my case to you specifically, just venting.

He's 76 and he didn't grow up around comic-books, why would anyone expect him to like those? And why would someone be offended because he doesn't like comic-book movies? It’s not what he likes or not likes, but he as a respected film director, denigrated and ghettoized one particular genre of film as “not cinema,” in effect insulting people who do like it implying those filmgoers are less sophisticated. And he’s also insulting his fellow filmmakers. Otherwise, I could not care less what Marty thinks about them. There's a director roundtable where obviously the question pops up. He explains it the best there

Makes sense. He's like an out of touch grandpa that thinks all video games = Nintendo.

Or it could be them wondering why he doesn't like the genre as a whole. Would he have said anything about superhero movies back in the 90s when they weren't as popular? I mean, he had a real hard on for the genre when he was promoting The Irishman. He's 76 and he didn't grow up around comic-books, why would anyone expect him to like those? And why would someone be offended because he doesn't like comic-book movies? You do know that most of the people that watch these movies aren't fans of the comics, right? It's not like he brought up romantic comedies. He stepped into the prison and went after the big dog.

People who keep going after Scorsese for not liking a dumb superhero movie are ridiculous and need to get a life.
So what if grandpa Scorsese doesn't know anything about video games or comics or superheroes? Boo fucking hoo.

Nobody is "going after" him for not liking superhero movies, nor hating him for not knowing what they are. What people are doing is calling him out for completely lambasting a bunch of movies that he never properly watched.

So what if grandpa Scorsese doesn't know anything about video games or comics or superheroes? Boo fucking hoo. Why are bothering with this “dumb” subject then? Scorsese (1) deliberated declared one genre of cinema as second class. He (2) is using his stature in the community to authorize this. Had a nobody standing outside a movie theatre said this, nobody would have cared. Now, he has to take the criticism for his statement. What is it that you don't understand about the word 'opinion'?

Why does it matter if it's somebody famous who said it? People can't think for themselves?

So what if he does not know that? DC fans have to stop saying "he's right, derp derp derp." Because he's almost definitely throwing their heroes under the bus as well.

So what if he does not know that? Because Scorsese previously said in an interview that Marvel movies were not cinema and they were more like theme parks. Now he admits that he doesn't even know which ones are Marvel movies.
