So, back in the day there were so few recurring guest actors of note that I didn't bother to split this category up by gender. So men and women were in this together for last decade's Best Of. So the winner was Leann Hunley and the runners-up were Steve Blackwood and Tanya Boyd. In this way, I guess we can consider Bart Biederbicke himself, Steve Blackwood, as the 2000s winner for best recurring actor.
These days it's different. You have recurring and guest actors all the time, and often they're notable stars of Days past. I guess that's a side effect of going from like 10 soaps to 4, people are a lot more flexible and available.
To that end, here are some notable guest/recurring roles that didn't make the cut. Generally because they just appeared too briefly:
Julian Barnes (Harold)
Ian Buchanan (Ian McAllister)
John Callahan (Dr. Richard Baker)
Jason Cook (Shawn)
Sean Douglas (Vargas)
Brandon Coughlin (Tad "T" Stevens)
George Del Hoyo (Orpheus) - did you guys hear Orpheus is back this month?
Ron Leath (Henderson)
Gilles Marini (Ted)
Terrell Ransom Jr. (Theo)
Aaron D. Spears (Commissioner Raines)
Ralph Waite (Father Matt)
Good job all of you. None of you are nominated. I almost gave a nod to Jason Cook out of nostalgia, but the dude was only in 15 episodes. We saw Robin Strasser play Vivian longer than that.
Also, I'm as surprised as you are to find that Kevin Riggin rated a nomination as Rory. He's honestly one of the most appearing of these recurring actors. We apparently saw Rory a ton circa 2013-2016. Anyway, whatever, not like he's going to win.
Oh, and here's who won it this decade:
2010: Wally Kurth (Runners-Up: John Martin and Michael Sabatino)
2011: John Aniston (Runner-Up: Wally Kurth)
2012: John Aniston (Runner-Up: Charles Shaughnessy)
2013: John Aniston (Runner-Up: Wally Kurth)
2014: John Aniston (Runner-Up: Joseph Mascolo)
2015: John Aniston (Runner-Up: Peter Reckell)
2016: Matthew Ashford (Runner-Up: Bryan Datillo)
2018: Paul Telfer (Runners-Up: John Aniston and Bryan Dattilo)
2019: Bryan Dattilo (Runner-Up: John Aniston)
So, y'know, John Aniston mostly. Then one win each for Wally, Paul, Bryan and Matt (who's nominated as a Supporting Actor for his 2011-2012, 2018-present runs, as opposed to his ghostly appearances).
I do think John, Wally, Paul and Bryan are the people who deserve every vote.
