I’m such a huge MCU fan. I really didn’t mean for this to become some kind of anti-MCU thread. I just really love Joker. It’s a wonderful film and my favorite movie of the year. Endgame is a very close second. I would choose Iron Man’s death scene over Joker’s stairs but Joker is the better film overall in my opinion. I’d probably choose Infinity War over Joker but for this year Joker is my favorite for sure. Not your fault mate, you could have said something as innocent as you love sitting down to watch a good movie with a pizza and a beer and thenolan would have found a way to shit on the MCU off of that and incited everything as he always does, not your fault he's a fucking puss filled rectal boil afterall.
Exactly my thoughts on it.

No surprises at a large number of nominations really - Phoenix and the score definitely deserved. Best film? Personally I'd rate all the other nominations I've seen higher - Once Upon A Time..., Parasite, Ford v Ferrari, Irishman and Jojo Rabbit. Add 1917 to that list as well

I like it as much or a bit better than Ford/Ferrari. I haven't seen Little Women yet. I like the rest of the nominated movies way more than Joker

Some of the nominations are complete joke. Best Makeup? BEST COSTUME DESIGN???!!!! ignorance is the salt of stupidity.
And art hath no greater enemy except ignorance. She drinks male tears? That's kind of nasty.

Congratulations to the Joker! Shame that a female director wasn't nominated. 🤣 🙄 🤪 You know you’re an SJW when...

It's weird. It seemed everyone loved Joker, but after it started getting nominated for awards there was a backlash where many are now saying it is overrated and doesn't deserve any awards. Personally, Joker and Parasite are my two front-runners for Best Picture.

But I think it’s gonna be something safer like The Irishman or 1917.

I still would love to see it win to see all these elitists that hate it freak out on Twitter (or a Washington Post op-ed).

It was never bad but never enthralling. I think there should have been more of Murray Franklin. His show appears to be modelled off Johnny Carson. And also scenes of the police. The cops were fine but if we saw them discussing the cases like in Death Wish (1974) it could have been interesting. But the screen time seemed to be 100% dedicated to Arthur Fleck. Few character studies ever do that and for good reason I feel.

You also never get a feeling that Fleck is a secret genius, which is of course what the Joker is supposed to be. He’s supposed to be so evil that you overlook how effortlessly ingenious he is. None of that in this movie, unfortunately.

I dunno people loved Joker for very specific reasons, which in most awards is what it was getting recognised for, the sheer volume of Oscar noms however maybe what people are pushing back against as they don't think Joker really stood out in some of those regards, doubt anyone is really arguing JP deserves the best actor nom however.

It’s best not to think of the movie in the context of a Batman story. The movie works much better as a one-off that isn’t beholden to the Batman mythos. That’s partly why I wish the movie would’ve been bold enough to actually kill off Bruce Wayne.

They had to otherwise they wouldn't have gotten the money to make it and no one would have cared to see it, this isn't a Batman or CBM it's a psychological thriller that they added some famous IP to in order to give it needed attention, and ta da it worked like a charm, it's sad that such a tactic was needed to get a movie of this calibre the chances it got but oh well.
In truth had this been set in NY or Chicago, featured a kid called Remington Boswell son of Archibald and Wilhelmina Boswell and been titled Tears Of A Clown or something it would have got maybe a $10-25m budget and made maybe 1/10th as much as Joker did.

Congrats to Joker! I don't think it will win Best Picture, but it should win Best Actor. Well deserved! One of the best comic book movies of the last decade for sure.
