I reviewed my auto ship for Chewy for next month, I'm glad I did. I didn't change anything from the auto ship I'm receiving today but the total went up over $35.00!!!! How can a case of 24 cans of Fancy Feast that cost me $13.00 in January go up to $22.99 in February?! I removed everything from the auto ship except for the flavors I cannot find around here and the urine cleaners. I'll be shopping in the stores on Wednesday so I can compare prices. Even the 9 Lives I've been feeding the feral cats has doubled in price on Chewy. No wonder so many people are dumping their pets (I won't dump mine), their food costs more than the food we eat and much of the food we eat is going up 20%. Life is getting harder for animal lovers.
p.s. whoopee - I'm getting an extra $7.00/ month next month from Social Security (Medicare took the rest of the tiny increase)

Yeah I can buy chicken on sale cheaper than pet food. So I've been buying chicken, throw it in the Instant Pot to make stock, then shred the meat, bag it in sandwich bags, and supplement my dog's kibble. After the holidays the grocery had turkey backs and necks for 50 cents/lb, I bought them all. I get delicious stock for soup and rice, the dog gets the somewhat bland meat but she loves it.

My Chewy shipment is every 7 weeks for a $60/bag of Blue Wilderness - Salmon/Venison/Halibut flavor for my dog. Whenever I make some tuna or we cook fish, she always gets scraps that we mix in with her kibble and she LOVES it.
She's weird though, she eats more like a cat, I've honestly never seen a dog that didn't just wolf down whatever I've put down in their bowl. But Holly, I put the foot out and she'll make pit stops and eat a little bit here, a little bit there, sometimes she'll go a full day without eating.

Cats need taurine (an amino acid) for their heart muscle and other muscles, housecats get this in their canned cat food so unless you really know what you're doing, its best to feed your cat some canned food daily. You could make homemade cat food and add the taurine yourself but you have to be cautious to not overdose or underdose them with taurine, I don't want to take that chance. Feral cats get taurine from eating mice and birds, a field mouse that has not been poisoned is the best food for a cat. I remember in the 70's someone tried selling canned whole mice for cat food but consumers didn't buy the food. I never saw it in my area otherwise I would have tried it. I was reading on the internet today that because of the tariffs on China, all canned goods will go up in price (it was on Yahoo), I guess a lot of the cans are made in China.

I would've tried the canned mice too.

I get the 30 can Grilled Seafood fancy feast for $18.44 at H.E.B., and they give me coupons for single cans. $1 off 10, which I use, or $1.50 off 36, which I don't.
I wrote this to HEB in March: If I get anything but seafood and either grilled or gravy lovers, she'll just ignore it for the Nutro Max dry chicken, which is out all the time. Even if I get the expensive stuff at the pet store.
I wish she would eat some other flavors. I know too much seafood can cause problems over time. Oh, and tuna is the only "people" food she will eat.

A lot of stores practice this when they raise prices, an example I can think of right now is Walmart, before Xmas I picked up a big jug of UTI cheeseballs for WKD to take to work, I paid $5.00, last week Walmart had the UTI cheese balls "on sale" for $5.98. Often when Walmart has that rollback sign on items, the prices have actually gone up and not down. Shoppers like me (and you)notice those things - who are they trying to kid. Cats are very fussy eaters, my tuxedo cats only like the fish flavored Fancy Feasts, I try to get them to eat chicken-no dice. The others will eat chicken but they hate turkey(I don't blame them)

Nuts: I have never received a treat for my cats from Chewy and I spend about $185.00 a month with Chewy. They even shorted me a case in my last shipment (they are sending it to me but put down it was "free - it's not free, I paid for it but didn't get) I fear Chewy is starting to slip

I haven't had a pet since my kitty "Chablis," died in the late 80's. She had a tendency toward urinary infection. Along with a pill, given twice-weekly, the Vet restricted her diet to mostly dry food, with a little "treat," of canned food on a seriously scaled-back basis. It's been a while, so I don't recall the schedule.
That was easier on the budget. She lived, robust, for 18 years.

" p.s. whoopee - I'm getting an extra $7.00/ month next month from Social Security (Medicare took the rest of the tiny increase)" There's your answer......because EVERYTHING is getting costlier! I subscribed to the Hulu streaming service 3 months ago for $45.00 a month, and just this week payed the NEW rate, for the exact same service, that's now (almost) $11.00 more a month......a (nearly) 25% increase per month! And the explanation for this jump in the cost for this monthly service? Simply, because they can. And saddest part of all? It ain't about to stop there....for me, or for anybody else with just about EVERYTHING we will pay for in our lifetimes! Capitalism Fever. Catch It !! Okay.....maybe just a BIT heavy-handed.....but you get the gist! SAVE FERRIS

When we lost our last cat, I said "no more", gave away all the toys, the scratching post, food. The pain of losing another kitty that I loved dearly was something I didn't want to face again. Truthfully the vet bills were also a factor for my husband, simple things were a small fortune for people on a fixed income.

Truthfully the vet bills were also a factor for my husband, simple things were a small fortune for people on a fixed income. This is my big worry Suzi, the vet bills take a big portion of our income. My husband is hoping to retire in a year so we will have to really cut our budget. We have a diabetic cat so that's always an extra $200.00/ month. We moved here with 1 cat and he was supposed to be the last but I ended up with 6 more, if I had not taken these cats, they would have all been dead. We will do the best we can but everything is getting so expensive and peoples' income is not keeping up. I've been trying to cut our grocery bill but I'm having a hard time getting WKD to cut his consumption of sweets in half, everything with sugar has really increased in price over the year.
I remember a few decades ago, homeless people would eat cat food because it was still cheap, now its more expensive than many of the canned goods produced for human consumption.
